Disappointed

The product continues to disappoint with nearly no year-to-year improvement in the user experience. Have been using TurboTax for over 10 years, and inspite of all the advancements in technology software, TurboTax appears to be still stuck in the early 2000s. Fortunately for TurboTax, the other tax software are not any better. It is possible Intuit sees no competitive threat and chosen not to invest in any improvements, but this sector could certainly benefit from a disruptor.

Tried and True Product

My "goto" tax software for my personal returns. Even though I am an IRS certified preparer and use other commercial software for client returns, I still return to TurboTax for my own returns. The ability to import both last year's information, as well as brokerage downloads from my multiple accounts is a great time saver.

TurboTax forces you into unwanted service options

TurboTax would not let me complete my tax return without requesting my information for the audit review, even though I had opted out & removed the option from the review step. Unacceptable!

Chose it for being desktop and having forms access

Pros: It runs mostly locally on my computer and the file persists on my computer and in my backup regimen. The forms view lets me continually review how things flow to the IRS forms and some supplemental worksheets.
Cons: Online-only activation means long-term access to the software is conditional on Intuit maintaining an activation server, e.g., if I migrate computers. There's no obvious channel for submitting bug reports, such as the fact that the edit (pencil) button for stock trades is clipped in a needlessly fixed-size pane that I have to side scroll, and the side scroll bar always starts outside the main panel (which I have to scroll to reach). I truly don't need the software to look flashy and modern, but it could definitely be more usable.
Also, it's frustrating that the software provides no meaningful assistance with evaluating qualified dividend holding periods nor identifying wash sales and tracking stepped-up basis on replacement shares over time due to disallowed losses. I have to resort to custom spreadsheeting for these tasks. (And it's niche but, no handling of ESPP donations, which still have to recognize ordinary income.)

Turbo Tax Premier is comfortable to use

Data import for form 1099B is more detailed than what is requested for hand written data from non-importable brokerages. It is confusing to determine if data totals is sufficient.

Turbo Tax Premier works fine but missing features

It works fine and is easier to follow than IRS documents. I have two problems with this years software. One - features that I need like 1099R were not available until the end of January. I want to know what the tax will be on my IRA withdraws and bought Turbo Tax in December to do a preliminary tax estimate. Next year I will wait to buy. Two- the last several years the IRS has rejected my filing due to bad pin number. I want Turbo Tax to ask for the IRS IP Pin number if last year I used it.
