Turbo Tax is greedy and tries to sneak in service

I gave you one star becuase it kept adding a $45 service at the end, Ikept removing it but it kept showing up at check out, I was able to remove it when I put my credit card in to pay the $25 state filing fee.

Turbo Tax is great but has some ambiguities

I have been using TurboTax for approximately 15 years and am generally quite pleased with it. In particular, I have found the staff who answer my questions to be professional, are always willing to take the time to explain everything and make sure I am able to move forward to fill out the forms. I do have one basic quibble that I feel TT could easily make better. When dealing with QCD's and especially RMD's, the language used the questions create unnecessary ambiguity. The language used probably create no ambiguities for individuals who have only one IRA and therefore have to take their RMD from that one IRA. The ambiguity arises when the individual has two IRA's. Then the language is ambiguous as to whether the individual should list the sum total of his RMD's from his two IRA's or list only the RMD for the IRA in question (Changing "the" to "this" IRA might reduce the ambiguity). A similar ambiguity is created when the question asks what the individual has used his withdrawal for. Assume an RMD is $50,000 and the individual has taken a distribution of $51,000 and simply spent the $51,000. I believe the correct answer the individual should offer is that all of the funds withdrawn were used for the RMD, but that answer is not accurate. Only $50,000 was used for the RMD. None of the possible responses is set up to deal with this possibility. I think these issues can be quickly resolved with some modifications to the language used.

Turbo Tax Software

The actual software downloaded to the computer isn't as user friendly as the Turbo tax website. The online website gave options to upload investment documents, whereas the installed software doesn't allow for uploads. The connection to sign into other companies to grab the investment information didn't grab the information correctly, like the online website. There was also a missing upload document selection for investments, whereas I was able to upload on the online website.

Generally a good experience with "Step by Step" or "Pick My Own" processes to navigate. Also provides helpful information for items that require a bit more information to understand. Covers most common forms, but surprised there is no support for Gift Tax (Form 709). Nice to have information populated from prior tax years, but didn't like when reviewing multiple forms from same company there is no way to distinguish them with a comment or nickname on the list that means something to the user. For example 1099-Rs from Firm ABC listed 3 times, have to select each one to see what it's for instead of a comment / nickname that could have been specified when originally entered in prior year. Would have been nice to select the state you want to display the refund for, and for it to be remembered across sessions.
