TurboTax becomes less user friendly each year.

I have used TurboTax for approximately 30 years, and each year it becomes more of a money grabbing operation.
This year I ran into a problem with the State of Kansas Homestead worksheet. I know we make too much to qualify for the homestead refund but TurboTax still walked me through the process. After completing the form, when I got to the state review, TurboTax showed an error saying the appraised value exceeded the amount for the refund with no further explanation. I finally ignored the error but TurboTax wouldn't let me file with that error in place. I spent hours trying to research the issue but TurboTax offered no help in resolving the issue. Finally today, I found an old post about the error in another online forum that suggested deleting the form which finally allowed me to clear the state check and file our taxes.
Very disappointed in how TurboTax but it's profits ahead of decent support/help section for users to resolve problems.

Turbo Tax lacking instructions
on March 1, 2025

Form 1116 instructions are not very good. Filling out Form 1116 for different countries is very difficult in turbo tax and the ability is not helpful.
AMT instructions are unhelpful and completely lacking.
I guess the instructions don't matter since turbo tax is selling help to complete the tax forms. In that case, the price better be reduced.

TurboTax’s Smart Check is misinterpreting 7a
on March 1, 2025

It sounds like you're encountering a frustrating issue with TurboTax Premier 2024 regarding Schedule B, Line 7a, which asks, "At any time during 2024, did you have a financial interest in or signature authority over a financial account (such as a bank account, securities account, or brokerage account) located in a foreign country?" This question relates to reporting foreign accounts, and the IRS expects it to be answered clearly—or left blank if it doesn’t apply—based on your situation. The problem you’re describing, where TurboTax flags an error whether you leave it blank or select "No," is a known glitch that has popped up in prior years and seems to persist for some users in 2024.
Here’s what’s likely happening: TurboTax’s Smart Check is misinterpreting the input (or lack thereof) on Line 7a. When you leave it blank, it might expect a "No" since you don’t have foreign accounts, but the software’s validation logic gets stuck in a loop. When you check "No," it might still flag it because the form’s programming expects the field to remain blank if Schedule B isn’t required (e.g., if your interest and dividend income is below $1,500). This creates a catch-22 situation.
Pros: I moved

Some of this years enhancements were confusing until I figured that I didn't need to use them. Did NOT like Turbo tax accessing my personal accounts.

Easier than last year
on March 1, 2025

Overall it was easier than last year. This year it did a better job of knowing what you needed to answer rather than taking you through all questions. I really liked the scan W-2 image feature. It would be nice if that was added for other tax forms. It seems like TurboTax should know more about state taxes. For example, if the state has no income tax or if the filer's income is below the required to file value.

Not as good as before and getting more expensive
on March 1, 2025

Extracting info from last year's return and entering it into this year's is still excellent. But in areas like RMDs and rollovers, business expenses, and a couple of other areas this year's program is not a clear as it used to be. I guess I could have purchased a the pricier version, but I never have had to before. I hear Block is getting a lot better. For next year I'll see about migrating over.

Very Disappointed with delays and delays

Very frustrated that I was not able to delete the property tax form for SEVERAL WEEKS after completing everything else and wanting to file. MN STATE forced me to wait and file seperately (finally!) w/o that form but not until an "update" was ready in March!
Perhaps it was this inability to file BOTH Federal and State together that cost me the promised $10 discount on said state filing. I am NOT happy with this default on your claim of that credit after purchasing the software at full price!
