Turbo Tax

TurboTax software had a file save issue again this year. Software needs to be 'run as administrator' when right clicking the TT icon in order to save it. A call to the 800 number walked through this, but woukld be good if they would do 2 things. One eliminate the run as admin issue, and two, allow the software to be loaded and run off an external hard drive. The hard drive load issue is same issue I had in 2023.

Turbo Tax does what it says it will do. However, the tax code is makes it difficult to know for sure you are using the right numbers.

Miss my old version of Turbo Tax.

1. Unnecessarily difficult to get set up. Instructions and design are not clear. Finding the place to input my proof of purchase key was time consuming. This should have popped up as soon as you launched the download. (I bought the online version.)
2. Overall design of the product is way worse than last year's version. Navigating around in the product is not intuitive as past versions. Spent way too much time trying to retrace steps and find what I needed.
3. Two factor authentication is fine, but the way Intuit went about it is at best clunky, and at worst very confusing.

Good software, watch out for surprise service fee.

I've been using the TurboTax software for over 20 years and it's fine. The $45 surprise "TurboTax Premium Service Fee" for filing my California State Tax is not. I understand that it's a fee for processing the $25 state filing charge from my refund but it's slimy to tack it on at the end without explanation. I had to go to the online help to find out it goes away if I pay with a credit card instead.

The program asks the right questions and is easy to follow. Had problems with it opening on my MAC laptop but finally got the program to work.
