Dark Patterns
on October 8, 2025

Dislike the dark pattern of filling out state taxes before being informed of $25 fee, and dark pattern of attempting to add a $45 fee for deducting fee from refund without fee being presented in standard way (it's bolded but not in the usual Total: Price format). While I understand "line must go up" every quarter which is NOT Intuit's fault, I do hope you have team members internally advocating against distasteful revenue enhancement tactics. Thank you.

Turbo Tax does a decent job but has a few glitches
on October 8, 2025

Turbo Tax does a relatively good job of helping one file their taxes. My two complaints would be:
1) Intuit needs to update the IRS address to send 1040-ES and 1040-V (estimated tax payments and payment vouchers) for states like California
2) California Form 3840 (Like-Kind Exchanges) has a glitch that prevents a taxpayer from efiling the CA tax return. The glitch is that the software insists that more than one property be listed in section A, part 1 for properties that were given up. There is frequently not more than one property given up and this glitch creates an error and therefore the CA 540 tax return cannot be efiled.

Over All Very Very Good.
on October 9, 2025

Over all Very VERY good, BUT I found what appears to be a software error and two of the instructions during the "interview" could be improved.
SOFTWARE ERROR: I had $11 of Margin Interest (Investment Expense). This ONLY applies if I itemize my Federal return. For this tax year, the STANDARD DEDUCTION was better, so I stuck with Turbo Taxes recommendation. I have two state returns: SC and WV. When I reviewed my WV return the $11 of Margin Interest was added back into my income since WV does not allow this deduction. HOWEVER, my Federal numbers did NOT include this amount since I did NOT select itemizing. Note that this $11 is still in the Turbo Tax software. I manually removed this $11 from the WV return since I did not itemize on my Federal Return.
CONFUSING INSTRUCTIONS DURING INTERVIEW: One of the screens that was confusing concerning Royalty's. The screen presented a top level line and then 2 or 3 sub lines under that. It was not clear that these lower level lines were part of the top level line (it had to do with taxes on royalties). From memory it was TAXES (top level) and then Real Estate Taxes and Other Taxes (Lower Level lines). Since I had $103 in Other taxes, it also appeared in the top level Taxes line. Since I knew that I only had ONE $103 charge, I deleted one of them. Of course, this goofed it up. It was then apparent that the top level TAXES was a roll up of the other two categories (i.e., Real Estate Taxes and Other Taxes).
The other place that was confusing was the screen that appears for double taxation by two states (I have income from two states). The wording could have been clearer on this screen. This is the screen where you are presented with the income and taxes paid to the non-residency state and asked if it also applies to the residency state. I did not catch this until I saw on the paper return that I did not have a credit in my home state (residency state) of taxes paid to another state (non-residency state). Again, the wording could have been clearer.
From a compatibility standpoint, the software worked fine with my Windows 11 Pro operating system.

K1 annoyance and filing date bug
on October 9, 2025

Needs more detail when inputting K1 figures instead of requiring us to figure them out. Also would not let me change the date for filing even though I was filing 5 days before the due date. It kept reverting to today's date. Highly annoying!
