Turbo Tax works for me!

I like that all my tax information from last year is available to compare with what I am entering this year. I like that I can switch from questions to forms. And I appreciate that I can download all the information from my brokerage right into Turbo Tax.

well, you have an error on your system. Paid my Taxes, filed and your system calculated my IRA conversion wrong! I overpaid. the IRS correct my filing and sent a refund.

Good, but Issues

1. insistence on trying to make me import financial data really amounts to interference - it makes it harder to enter the data. - Also NO WAY do I want my financial account info passing through Intuit.
2. entering sales totals - "was this helpful"? NO
3. Let's finish pulling up your investment income - LEAVE ME ALONE!
4. the whole loop around investment income, dividends, interest, import, was bullpoop.
5. state estimated taxes - "select a state" - waste of time
6. incredible difficulty finding "get an extension" in turbortax. then it told me told me it was too late (NC had an automatic extension to May 1, then until Sept 30)
7. problems with signing up for "free audit defense" - spent too much time on that, got nowhere. Even online support was baffled. Gave up.
8. hard to find "apply refund to next year" for NC, eventually found via Estimated tax tab? Why did this have to be so hard? Why couldn't I override it on the form?

Bugs and Annoyances

Many bugs. Had to spend a lot of time troubleshooting in order to file. Confusing interface. Couldn't use my state downloads from my Mac on Windows when I was troubleshooting.

Terribly unhelpful on complex topics

Many advanced topics just say "enter this and this here" with absolutely no guidance on where those numbers come from. For my foreign tax credit, it literally on the review said "you have to enter numbers on these forms" even though I completed the wizard (twice), I had to reverse engineer all the numbers on the form to figure out what to put it. Totally painful.

Printing is poor. Desktop program will not print state return only.
Cost of e-filing state return at $25 is too expensive
Updates are slow, annoying. Why does it have to check for updates every time I launch.

TurboTax Filing Instructions Need Improvement

The filing instructions for state don't tell you what to include with your state form. It just says "any required attachments" It should say what the attachments are, such as W2 or 1099s, or whatever. It's very frustrating because it doesn't tell us what the required attachments are.
