2024 taxes

I've used for several years now. Adequate for medium complex returns. One suggestion would be to make the election to apply refunds to future year taxes easier to elect. The option is hidden. Can Turbo Tax add an election button to the running tax due/refund amount to make the election simple? And have an "apply full refund to next year" vs. the requirement to enter a number.

I have used Turbo tax since 1992 and I mostly would give it a 5-star rating. However, this tax year 2024 I can only give it 3-stars. My initial tax submittal went well and I thought I was done. A few weeks after I received a K-1 1065 form so I had to amend my return. I loaded Turbo tax and the program asked if I wanted to get the latest updates. I said yet like I had done in the past, after the update I loaded my previously completed tax form. I select amend and proceeded to enter the K-1 information. My K-1 should not have changed my final tax (i owed the IRS). As I worked through the amended return and fixed a few typos, I noticed that my taxes due changed a lot. I printed out the file and proceeded to try the undo selection and nothing changed. At some point the amended file was saved over my original file. At that point I closed the program without saving. When I looked at the dates on the file stored on my computer they showed the current date. I lost the ability to look at my original file. Fortunately, I had saved a printed copy.
My recovery. I reopened the file and decided to go through step by step to validate all the entries. When I got to the end, I still had a significant tax due showing. I knew this was not correct. I started digging into the forms to see what was going on. I found the following. 1: The 1040x did not show my previous payment to the IRS in box 16. 2: Also, in box 18 there was a non-zero amount which I did not enter of Overpayment shown (I did not have an Overpayment for 2023). The combination of these two boxes is what drove the taxes due number.
My recommendation is when selecting to amend a return the program should not allow overwriting the original file. The program should create a new file with the word amended in the title. That way the original file can always be recovered.

The ONLY Way I Will Ever Do My Taxes

I've been using Turbo Tax for over 20 years. As my situation has changed through the years including buying stocks, mutual funds, buying and managing rental properties, marriage, buying a main home, divorce, selling that main home, etc. etc. their software is continually suited to handle every situation and very easy to use.
