Great product, a little heads up would be nice tho

Fine for the most part, spent a little more time on the deductible page than I liked. I didn't realize it was broken into ten steps and the step I needed was going to be on step 7 or 8. Just would have liked a heads up of what's on each step beforehand instead of having to click next to know. But, this still is a great product!

Turbo Tax always makes doing taxes better. Easy to follow process and one can always go back, and review / change things where needed.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax is just EH

I am frustrated because I did my tax return TWICE and each time I ended up with four quarterly tax payment vouchers which I do NOT need as my estimated taxes are deducted and paid from one of my retirement account monthly payments. I hope I do NOT get penalized by the US Treasury for NOT making those additional quarterly payments that are not necessary and only seem to be connected to an error within TurboTax.

Turbo Tax Needs Improvement
on April 15, 2025

This experience has been horrible. First, Turbo Tax Online prompted me to purchase software for $69 to file my Virginia taxes only to inform me that I had to purchase the desktop version for Married filing separately because of my scenario. This is very confusing when filing a federal return that includes multiple states. I had to purchase the desktop version for another $115, plus I paid $20 to e-file the State of Virginia. Unfortunately, the desktop version rejected me saying that it could not find record of my state return that matched the profile. However, my federal return was filed several days ago.
Pros: My employment status changed this year, I bought or sold investments

TurboTax is Great!

I have been using Turbo Tax Premier for Desktop for quite a few years now and I really like it. It walks me through all the steps asking questions and even offers examples, so it really is user friendly. I use the Premier version because I have a rental property, and it is very helpful to go through the questions step by step. Get it, you won't be sorry!

Buggy and not user friendly

There was a serious bug that made it impossible for me to claim a home office using the simplified method. This was well described online, and was only circumventable by using the fully itemized method.
It also drives me crazy that I have to go look up the same information multiple times that had been entered elsewhere. Similarly I had to enter my banking and billing info multiple times as I eFiled for state and federal. Very unsophisticated given the maturity of this platform. These things make a complicated and timeconsuming process just that much more tedious and slow.

Turbo Tax sometimes provides an estimate of higher amount of tax payment which could be misleading to the taxpayer.

The Foreign Tax credit needs improvement. The program limits 1 country for 1 brokerage account even if the brokerage account has several countries.
The directions to fill in entries in sections needs to be consistently concise and inform what exactly is needed before entering the entries instead of waiting until entering amounts then saying ‘Oh, you need this info also’ and then it is a mess trying to back up, go forward, or get to that data entry point again.
When you enter interest & dividends on the income section, you cannot go back and edit to add a 1099 B amount. A separate form must be filled out for the same brokerage account.. And when you click the edit button, it takes you to the top of the form instead of staying in the section you want to edit. But it will not let you enter it anyway…….
