TurboTax is a great program

Form 4584 Casualty and Theft Loss

I'm 79 and retired so my taxes are pretty simple most years. This year I needed to file Form 4684 and found both the form, the instructions, and the IRS instructions confusing and difficult to interpret. It would help if TurboTax and / or the IRS provided guidance on how to file for losses during a hurricane in which both the house, and many hundreds of personal property were lost. The examples I found were for a purse and a camera. It's complicated and filling it incorrectly could result in penalties all because the instructions are mostly just word salads.

Passive Income and Loss Calculations Confusing

Turbo Tax is adequate for the standard income and deductions; however, I have rental property and K-1 that usually reflect a loss year after year due to depreciation deductions. Turbo Tax is confusing on how it tracks disallowed losses and carryforward losses and doesn't seem to bring forward consistent amounts from year to year.

The software keeps on having issues. will not let you efile because of these issues, but it won't let you fix them. every year the same thing

Suggestion For Improvement (concerns AGI/PIN)

I mailed my return last year because e-file had ended. My e-filed return was rejected this year because I didn't know to put "0" as my PIN. TurboTax suggested to only check that my AGI from last year's return was correctly entered as the PIN (filled in after importing from last year's software). Since the PIN is checked just before the return is sent, could 1 last question be asked on the PIN page? "Did you mail or e-file last year's return?" It would have saved me some stress of being rejected-ever. I took off a star because of that.
