Unexpected shutdowns and a bug in ESPP calculation
on April 15, 2025

I have used Turbotax for years, but seemed to have run into a few issues this year. Desktop application would sometimes just shutdown when reopening my file. This always happened the first time opening a tax file right after clicking 'check for updates'. The second time opening the file seemed to work, but it left you with an unsettled feeling hoping that it would open you file after putting in so much work on it. Also found a error in its worksheet calculation for ESPP stock gain (under certain conditions) when multiple share lots are sold on the same date and some are just partial share lots. Their calculation assumes that share lots are sold in full, and asks for you to enter the full shares acquired from form 3922, however if you only sold partial share lots its calculation can understate the cost reported. To get around this, I entered the actual shares sold for that lot and it worked fine. Then I figured out I shouldn't be adjusting those costs anyway since these were qualified shares sold, however their guidance on not adjusting ESPP cost shares is a bit confusing when it always says "not recommended'. Not adjusting cost shares for disqualified shares is not recommended but since qualified ESPP shares cost is essentially the exercise price, their guidance can mislead you to believing that all ESPP shares sold should be cost adjusted. There are other people reporting issues with their ESPP support which does make me question its accuracy overall, but I was able to thoroughly verify my results manually.

disappointed that TT couldnt be filed electronically. It would not acept my wifes income for last year but did accept mine. It is a stupid question because I file as married filing joint so are income is one and the same.

Small stuff is slipping/missing

1) Can no longer bypass importing investment docs -- TT used to ask if i wanted to skip it after the third refusal.
2) General flow not as good.
3) No update to ItsDeductible, either in items listed or to prices

2024 version is Buggy!

This year the software is a lot more buggy. For example:
1. I could not import my W2 because the fields did not register space and special characters
2. It did not include my mortgage interest deduction until I completely delete and re-enter the form again

Good but could use some improvements
on April 15, 2025
Posted by: Jim this is annoying
E-file is easy, printing to file is cumbersome and not intuitive.
The filing address for Virginia is wrong... again. Has been for as long as I have been using TT in VA.
