turbotax form 1116 handling
on April 14, 2025

I have complained about this before -- the Foreign Tax Credit forms should be easier to use. Users should just be presented with a fillable form in which ALL the Foreign Div and tax amounts can be entered, and the software should place the entries in the right order to create ALL the Form(s) 1116 (all copies).
Pros: I bought or sold investments

TurboTax Rocks!

Using TurboTax is genius. Smarter than staying in a Holiday Inn! Simplifies the entire process. Excellent support is available for the year for a one time fee, and Audit Defense is available at no charge to help cover you if you're audited. And I'm saving a few thousand on Tax Prep fees. What more can you ask for?

I've been using it for decades and while it is easy to use, it also hasn't innovated much. My biggest problem is that it keeps asking me for the same information - such as my name and address. I went to pay, the credit card form asked for my name and address. Also the State form lacked the ability to jump to any section I wanted to. The Fed has this feature. I needed to update on section and instead had to start from the beginning and press Next Next Next until the correct page was shown.
Also it would be nice if more data could be imported. And it could short circuit and not ask questions that don't matter based upon the data input. Why enter Mortgage info - when a) it already knows I live at the same address, b) standard deduction & home value would obviously allow skipping of this input? Make it faster by skipping things.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Two states now better

Filing two states (CT and MA) was much easier this year - the software didn't double count income items. Thanks for fixing the glitch!
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Getting a little lazy
on April 14, 2025

This was my worst year with TurboTax. I had to google or search for clarifications for several badly worded questions. Also, having to repeatedly enter my same checking account information for paying and receiving funds is ridiculous. It should be getting easier each year. The one upside was it seemed easier to make payments for audit defense and state e-filing and then return to the program

Turbotax is great, but needs a couple changes

Entering return information was fine. Wish that Head of Household status came earlier and was acknowledged before I went through itemized deductions. It would be nice to have the option to do a MANUALLY Entered 1040 without having to provide supporting docs just to see different scenarious.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
