Foreign Accounts

I've used TurboTax for many years and loved it. This year my taxes were mor complicated because of a new immigrant wife. Very disappointed in the way the program handled foreign accounts, foreign taxes paid, etc. Took hours longer to do then I expected.

Turbo Tax needs to improve Estimated Tax Section

I must pay estimated taxes, and am frustrated by the fact that Turbo Tax does not prompt me into that area as I'm arriving at final steps of both my Federal and State (NY) return. I found a method to plug next year's estimates on the Federal by way of the community blog. But I found no way to adjust the figures that the state software came up with.

Turbo Tax progrram is the worst this year

I've used Turbo Tax for years but this year is the worst you've done with this program. Search topics not very helpful and overall some of the questions are so generic don't know how to respond. All you do is constantly asking for more money. through ads. Can't see the forms on my mac book.

Excellent product. Sufficient for our straight forward return inputs. If one has their required documents from income, savings, investments, etc. Turbotax is very straight forward and will likely have an understandable answer for any situations you run into.

Rental Property Sales Forms Improvement

We had a scenario where we bought a Town Home in 2003, lived there until 2014 before renting it for 10 years and then eventually sold it in 2024. The initial cost of the home back in 2003 was more than the fair market value in 2014. Hence I had to use the lesser amount, the fair market value in 2014 to calculate the depreciation. When calculating the capital gains, Turbo tax uses the Fair Market Value as the cost of home and does not as questions about the initial acquisition cost, additional costs incurred for closing and adjusted cost basis to cater to capital improvements. As a result, the tax obligation that was calculated was higher and incorrect. I was obviously conscious of these and cross checked the various Turbo Tax forums before bumping into one wherein the suggestion was to cover these as expenses when selling. While I did this, I also signed up for tax advice to cross check the same to make sure this was the only way to cater to it. The tax professional was excellent and confirmed the same. My suggestion to Turbo Tax is to make the forms more exhaustive to cover this scenario to help the next person who runs into this situation. If the forms catered to this, I would have definitely saved 50 dollars!

Turbo Tax is good but could use some improvements

Turbo tax does seem to come up with the correct mathematical calculations and it does seem to carry forward items from prior years and these are positive features. However, when you are entering real estate expenses it is very cumbersome because the entry process is split into two parts with a major number of iinterruptions in between. Turbo should allow all the entries into one list of boxes then start asking all the questions later. Also it does not always save your previous answers when you go back to the same property again. Another annoying problem is how slow the creation of any form is when you are in the forms mode. When I ask for a form I want it now, not 10 seconds from now.
