Not what it used to be, simple
on February 14, 2025

This year the return process was not as smooth as in the past. Had issues with transferring the brokerage data properly. Help tab was worthless asked a simple questions and it could answer. Should be able to print summaries from the screen, i.e., deductions, income comparisons. Could not find the analyses of return that was available in the past.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbotax has become more confusing and frustrating
on February 14, 2025

I was constantly confused by popups advertising Turbotax options that i was not interested in. Also signing in was confusing on account of many layers of identity verification. And using my NY drivers license data was also confusing and (necessary ???). There also seemed to be pages and pages of small details printed out when the most potentially confusing information was handled simply by automatic transfer of details from my main financial organization.

IP PIN - Identity Protection PIN - is critical

Somewhat more difficult to follow the new information requests, especially the PIN requirements which caused my initial "filing" to be rejected by both USA and CA.
Pros: I moved

Software is easy to follow, however....

The software is straightforward to use and ensures that the calculations are accurate. However, Intuit charges $25 to e-file my New Jersey return, even though the state offers free e-filing. This is unfair to loyal users. I would have rated it 5 stars, but I am very disappointed with Intuit's policy of charging for a free service. Intuit really needs to reevaluate this option for the benefit of the consumer rather than prioritizing profits.

Always a great program. But not a fan of the new way you handle data input for interest and dividends.

Happy user, until this year

I have been using Turbo Tax Premier for over 10 years and have been happy with product. However, the 2024 Premier version had a bug in the program when trying to input 1099 INT data. I wanted to input the information manually, but every time I selected " I'll choose what I want to enter", it took me to a screen to download information from financial institutions, with no option to skip downloading. I had no way to get to the screen to input the data. I called the Turbo Tax help desk, and after working with the support person they had me delete all the download options on the download screen, which then allowed me to the screens to input my data. Hopefully this problem will be fixed for next year's version.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
