Something Changed???

Crappy experience this year versus previous years that went VERY smooth. Beginning with initially not being able to import all of my files, for some strange reason I was able to later on. Do not remember having those hiccups in connection issues in previous years to having to being told to submit and mail a 8453 when all of my files were electronically downloaded, "if a elect not to report your transactions electronically" when that is the very purpose for downloading and importing the forms in the first place. Does not make sense for that form to show up, if I am wanting to file all my forms electronically. Might try something else next year...

Ad Hoc Solution

TurboTax says to enter info on RRB-1099-R exactly as shown. My wife is a spousal annuitant and Box 3 (Employee Contribution) is blank. TurboTax keeps showing her as a railroad employee and insists on an entry, no matter how many times I change her status from employee to spouse. Your Live Tax Help just said to put a zero in Box 3 which fixed this return but not the software glitch.

it is clunky, slow, repetitive and has been getting worse the past few years. after years of using TurboTax I am looking for a new service next time.

Still Lots Of Room For Improvement

TurboTax is apparently the gold standard for tax programs. But for more complex situations that require the Premier Edition, such as entering K-1 information, tracking investment cost bases, and rental income from a house, the guiding questions often seem to presume that one already knows how to fill out the tax forms without assistance; that's the reason people hire tax professionals, and not why the buy TurboTax. They need to keep improving this aspect.
