Very Good Tax Prep, but misleading product wizard
on April 12, 2025

When logging into TurboTax, I'm immediately prompted to by product selection questions. This drives to purchase an online product. It was difficult to find my Advantage subscription and that I already am entitled to sufficient product for my situation. Include existing entitlements and desktop options in the very central wizard that guides your customers to licensing.
I paid a premium to handle investments, yet significant transaction details had to be entered versus ingested from Fidelity. Ensure everything that's included in major financial provider documents is correctly reflected in TurboTax.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Increasingly annoying

Turbotax is becoming increasingly annoying. It repeatedly asks questions and confirmations during the process. It pushes tax advisors over and over. It overcharges for state returns and to submit returns and pay taxes. In other words, it is annoying and clunky software.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax Deluxe Desktop version
on April 12, 2025

The desktop deluxe version does not bring up prior year filings with the desktop version prior years for comparison. It does - in terms of checking if we missed anything, but not for simple analytics like change in income, deductions, gains/losses, etc. from one year to the next. Your SW should simply be able to calculate this and be pointed to the path for prior year filing - even if just this year vs PY.

Problem with Turbo Tax
on April 12, 2025
Posted by: Edgar_atl
When paying for E-file of state ITR using a credit card, with font at 140% the credit card info was out of screen. I could not use the back command. I had to end the turbo tax task but Turbo Tax would not restart. I had to reboot.

Oh, how I hate Turbo Tax

There is a programming error in Turbo Tax import of 1099-INT forms. I almost filed my taxes wrong because of it. I was reviewing my taxes at completion manually with a calculator and printed forms. I noticed a discrepancy on my (Oregon) OR-ASC form compared to my printed 1099-INT/DIV forms.
To sum up, I found two of my Vanguard 1099-INT forms were not entered-about a 1,000 federal tax discrepancy and one that surely would have gotten me audited and penalized for tax negligence and underpaying. What I found is that each of 3 Vanguard 1099-INT forms replaced the previously downloaded one. After doing 3 downloads, Turbo Tax retained only the most recent download. So the numbers would change, but the previously downloaded 1099-INT was deleted.
After playing with this for some time, I manually downloaded two missing Vanguard 1099-INT forms. This was nefarious-the 3 Vanguard 1099-DIV forms of the same accounts downloaded correctly. My Charles Schwab forms all downloaded correctly-INT and DIV. But to have downloads nefariously delete previous downloads is just awful. I was lucky to be a little paranoid and to have been checking things with paper, pencil, and calculator.
I am in the ecosystem. I will continue using TurboTax. I wish the US Government would have their own tax program so we would not need to use a commercial product like TurboTax. Those not in the Turbo Tax ecosystem yet, I recommend reviewing competing products and choosing the one that is least evil. I stay with Turbo Tax. I'm sure they all have issues. I am also certain that Intuit prioritizes profits over getting every bug out of Turbo Tax. It sucks that the users have to debug as they go.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax is great

It was much easier to follow this year than last for me. I couldn't possibly do my return without Turbo Tax and use the program to help my son and a friend. Though the costs get greater, as seems to be the case everywhere, it is worth what I paid.

Turbo Tax does its job
on April 12, 2025

It is very costly for additional state, 45 for software and 25$ for filing. The software does not tell you or let you pick which of the states or fed return for filing. They seem to be bundled all together , either you file all at the same time or none. There should be an option to pick.

Disapointed
on April 12, 2025

Have been using TurboTax for 20+ years. Software hasn't improved over the years and too many "glitches" in program. In addition, bought turbo tax w/ undestanding could e-file 5 federal returns. Was only able to E-file 4 files. Very disappointed. May be last year I use Turbo Tax.
