Impressive Hardware, Frustrating Connectivity
on October 3, 2025

I recently upgraded from the previous Fenix 8 51 mm AMOLED to the new Fenix 8 Pro 51 mm AMOLED. While the hardware feels more refined and the AMOLED screen is gorgeous, the experience hasn’t been as smooth as I hoped — mainly because the watch frequently loses connection with my iPhone 16 Pro.

We appreciate the review! Garmin watches have a setting that will alert you when your watch connects or disconnects from your phone. It's normal to experience many connections/disconnections throughout the day when smartphone connection alerts are enabled. After a temporary disconnection, the device should reconnect to the phone within a minute or two of the Bluetooth signal being detected. Additional information about this can be found here: http://ms.spr.ly/6425sxPHf

You can also turn off smartphone connection alerts by holding the middle-left button and selecting Watch Settings > Notification & Alerts > System Alerts > Phone.

Battery life
on October 3, 2025

I was wearing the Apple Watch Ultra and it’s night and day difference with the battery. I was having to charge the Apple Watch every 18 hours and I have not had to charge my fenix in18 days. So many great features that I love. Great watch.

The battery life is so awesome.

My purchase of the fenix 8 pro was my first venture out of the Apple ecosystem. The battery life was the biggest attraction. It took the grit away from charging my apple watch every day. I am getting 16-20 days of watch usage before charging. I don’t miss my Apple Watch. I’m still learning the watch. I have complaints except having issues setting up Garmin pay. I hope to figure that out soon. I am overall very happy with my decision.

Design, look and feel are great but

It's a great watch, and has great features.....
But the touch screen reminds me of the clumsy days of smartphones, when everything seemed to be in experimental design stages.
It could do so much more, and be friendlier to synced smartphones as well.

Amazing Watch, but Garmin Connect lacking!

Been a long time Garmin Watch user, and still think Garmin is the gold standard for fitness and adventure watches and trackers. The Fenix 8 pro is still the best adventure watch out there, but LTE implementation seems half baked. You cannot make calls or send messages freely like you would on an Apple Watch, not directly anyway. And the subscription model for this is also disappointing. The Garmin connect app has improved over the years, but not by a lot. You still cannon configure your watch fully through the app or see the watch screen on the app. There is also still no iOS widget on the iPhone, hoping Garmin listens to our feedback.

Great design but falls short on LTE functionality
on October 13, 2025

I love my Garmin Epix Pro and was excited to see the Fenix 8 Pro get LTE to hopefully be able communicate without the phone. Unfortunately, the closed proprietary system and the requirement to have everyone I want to contact have the Messager app was a deal breaker for me for the high cost of the watch. I hope that someday perhaps this will not be a closed system and the LTE will function more like the Apple Ultra 3 in that it can share the number with my phone and be able to communicate natively. I decided to keep my Epic Pro as I love it and it covers my use case for that watch, and I went with an Ultra 3 as my daily driver.

Outstanding Trim and Finish

This thing is such a beautiful piece. Super subtle differences from the 7X Solar that I just sold, but the overall quality is undeniable. It would have been better if they could have kept the thickness the same. It stands off the wrist a bit more than the 7X did. All my issues with functionality have more to do with my learning curve on the customizations available, which is encouraging. Not impressed with the voice functionality yet. Turning Sleep Mode on and off using shortcut is borderline not working. Weird stuff like that. This is my 3rd or 4th Fenix. Finally able to run without my phone, listen to music and stay in touch in an emergency.
