A definitive downgrade from the Snap Grip 4 Luxe

I've had Snap Grips for a while now and they have always been great for me until I tried the 5. It is perhaps the worst phone grip I have used out of the bunch that I've tried. One of the primary functions of the grip is it's magnetization and this one fails so much that it's unreasonable. While it does function as a good grip for your fingers, it does not stay on metallic surfaces like the 4 Luxe does. I tried to put it on my fridge as I was cooking and it just slid down. Then, after I had taken it off, the grip detached from my phone and stuck to the fridge! I had to use the extra adhesive to keep it from doing that but I should not have to do that with a MagBak case! The ball has been dropped with the 5 and it's disappointing because I truly enjoyed the Snap series. I ordered 2 more of the 4 Luxe at the same time I ordered the 5 and they both work wonderfully.

Disappointing

First one I bought and got a defective one. Which is a little disheartening because I was really looking forward to the product. Shelf mode was a fail because it isn’t sturdy. When closing the grip the arms would bend the other way , I would flip them back and did the reset and waited for hours to not use it but it would still bend the other direction.

It squeaks when spun

When I pop out the socket and try to rotate it, it sometimes gets snagged and it doesn’t become a one finger motion. You have to use your whole hand to rotate it and when doing so it starts making a squeaking sound. This happens, whether you have a magnetized to the back of your phone or just holding in your hand to inspect it.

This thing rocks. Never used one before but needed it on my bigger phone. Love how slim it is, and easy to use. Bought one for my wife who is super picky and she loves it.

A little over hyped

I previously owned the earlier version, and while both feel great in hand and on the phone, they share an issue with the kickstand. It often takes a few attempts to get the kickstand to stay in position. With the V5, the sticky backing has been removed, and it now relies solely on the magnet. While this makes it much easier to transfer the snap between phones—which is a definite plus—I’ve noticed it doesn’t hold quite as securely as the V4 did with the adhesive. The magnets generally hold well, but there are certain angles where the snap can pop off. One example is holding the phone in my left hand using the Oh Snap while reaching one-handed to adjust the volume up or down.Hopefully, durability has improved, as my V4 lasted just over a year before failing.

Lux 4 Upgrade was a Downgrade
on January 18, 2026

I prefer the Oh snap over the other pop style fidget brand, due to the ability to mag my phone to random surfaces while I’m working and what not. I purchased a new Snap Grip 5 to replace my hardly used Lux 4 Snap Grip. Just because, no actual reason other than I got a new case so why not, I found the soft touch on the Boring black Snap 5 grip to be a nice addition, BUT the magnets seem to be a bit weaker than the Lux 4 were, I have mag phone mounts at work, home and in my vehicle, I’ve had the Snap Grip 5 fall off all these mounts multiple times, and while I’m cooking I tend to slap it to the fridge, it slides do to the speaker vibration, the Lux 4 did not do this.. therefore I feel the magnets are just weaker, or maybe there are less magnets? Otherwise, I don’t use the snap grip 5 since my Lux 4 was perfectly fine, I’ll put the 5 in a drawer until the 4 actually fails/breaks...

Only an upgrade from 4 in some ways.

My snap grip 4 became a part of my life. Hugely beneficial, especially in the gym, when I could stick my phone to the squat rack. The grip 5 is too weak to hold my phone without sliding. I got it because the wallet is also too weak to hold my phone without sliding, and it didn’t solve my problem. I have an iPhone 15 pro Max with a Mous case.

It works well and my phone charges. Sometimes the little legs get confused and the snap doesn't close all the way. i have to maneuver it into place. Not a big issue, but a bit annoying.
