great system

I bought my night owl 12 camera security system 6 years ago. and just now am having to replace my DVR system. My cameras are still woring fine. Of course running the wires through the atic was a major pain at least all my wires are concelled. A few small glitches with that app and connecting to the DVR system narrowed that down to my wifi router. I would recommend this system to anyone.

Killed my system, no discount or credit to upgrade

I have been with Night Owl for over 10 years. They decided to kill the Mobil App making your system worthless. If you wish to stay with a Night Owl you have to purchase a whole new system with no consideration of your years of loyality.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Was looking for a system that wouldn't record audio as my clients talk about personal matters and share sensitive information about retirement and investments. Did want video for security and as a deterent from break-ins though. This is a great balance. If I need audio in reception or other area I can always add it with Wi-Fi camera per Night Owl.

Short Life Hard Drive

I bought this one in March of 2024. It was easy to set up and worked great till July of 2025. The hard Drive went out and was making a low tone noise. I thought I had upgraded but it went out way too soon.

FTD4-81-8L LVe View Options

I am disappointed that FTD4-81-8L does not support single channel viewing sequentially through active channels. Not being able to view channels sequentially on FTD4-81-8L is a letdown. I wish FTD4-81-8L had a function that allowed for single channel viewing in a sequential order.

Everything is great, but the cables.

The cables are to short for 60 ft. I have to buy additional cables. They sell the 100 ft cables, they should put those in the package instead of the 60 ft.

The DVR is working great. Only have one negative comment. The unit supports 10 cameras. I am using 6. I cannot find a way to disable the other 4 unused cameras and they fill one third of the TV screen with unused blank camera spaces. Other than that a good security system.
