[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been using the Arlo Essential XL Outdoor Security Camera (3rd Gen) for a little while now and I’m honestly impressed. The 2K video quality is super clear, both during the day and at night thanks to the color night vision. I love how wide the view is (130°), it really covers a big area of my yard without blind spots.
The motion detection is very responsive — I get instant alerts on my phone whenever there’s movement, which gives me peace of mind when I’m not home. The setup was simple and wireless, so I didn’t need to deal with messy cables.
What stands out the most for me is the battery life. It really lasts much longer than I expected, so I don’t have to recharge it all the time. For me, it’s a reliable and smart choice for home security. Highly recommend if you want an easy-to-use, dependable outdoor camera!

Easy setup and install

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This camera took me 5 seconds to install not literally. The set up and installation was a breeze. This is my first instance with security cameras and I am very impressed with the quality of the picture and sound. The motion detection is great and accurate. The app was easy to install and navigate and paired with the camera instantly. It seems real sturdy and secure with the mounting process, and the charging port is underneath enclosed with a rubber seal to make it watertight. Overall a great camera to give you a little peace of mind.

Good Quality, Costly Plan, Missing Community

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was gifted the new Arlo Essential XL (2025 release), and honestly, it’s impressive in a lot of ways compared to my Ring Stick Up Cam Battery (3rd Gen). The video quality is noticeably sharper and more detailed, especially in low light where my Ring tends to blur things out or tends to get grainy. I really like how the Arlo captures clear footage without much distortion, and the battery seems to last longer too.
That said, I’m realizing how much I relied on Ring’s community feature- the “Neighbors” feed. It’s a huge network, and I didn’t realize how much peace of mind it gave me. Arlo doesn’t have anything like that, which makes it feel a little isolated in comparison. The subscription plan is also pricier, and I wish I had the multi-camera or 4K version since I can see how much better the resolution could be and I I definitely need more coverage. So, Ring still wins when it comes to the community and app experience, but Arlo definitely delivers when it comes to clarity and performance. It’s a nice camera with room for improvement in my opinion- it just comes with a few trade-offs in cost and features.
