Does not work they way they say it should

Purchase the Swann MaxRanger Mini Kit 4K Wireless back on September 2025. I was excited because this product, brand came highly recommend. I had it set up and thinking it would provide the needed coverage and security I needed. That is not the case. Its a 1000 range and recording does not happen. There would be days before it detect or even notify me of anything. I thought it would record continuously motions or those who came into range of the camera. That is not the case. No recording, not motion picked up and not function. If you don't have outside light in the night, you will not be able to see anything. Quite odd for such a camera. So not, I have to find different fog light/outside light to provide an additional security.

Great little Cameras, live on a rural property in outer Melb, lots of trees and obstructions, extended WiFi is as great as suggested so also purchased one of the bigger ones for a more remote area on my site

Great for Keeping an Eye on the Folks

Picked this up for my parents’ place. They’re getting older, and while they’re still pretty independent, I wanted something that could help me keep an eye on things without being over the top.
This set was a good balance. It’s not huge or overcomplicated, just enough coverage for the main entry points and backyard. The cameras are small and don’t make the place look like a fortress, which Mum was worried about, but they still give a really clear view of what’s going on.
I can check in from my phone if they’re not answering or if they’ve had someone around. Gives me peace of mind without being invasive, and they’ve actually grown to like it too. Easy to use, decent quality, and feels like a good step between nothing and going full security nerd.

Hmmmm. Purchased in October. One of the mini cameras was intermittently faulty right out of the box. Swann did replace the faulty unit at no cost to me but I felt it took an unreasonable amount of effort by me to achieve this. Fault was reported on 19th Oct, replacement camera received 5th Nov. I find it disappointing that the support process is nowhere near as responsive as the sales process. I had to constantly follow-up to determine what was going on. Perhaps my expectations are unrealistic?
MaxRanger hub software is responsible, seems stable. I suspect it is targeted at online powered cameras and can be confusing when using report by exception batteries cameras as displayed information is often stale. As I’m a left hand mouse user and the primary and secondary mouse buttons are not to my liking and I have not found a way to swap the buttons.
iOS app is err flaky at best, plenty of room for improvement here. Pairing the app on my iPad with the hub was a challenge as the QR scan scanner function did not work and MxRanger hub was not available to select when pairing manually. I did manage to get my iPad paired in the end but not sure how I did it. Also many features in the app such as adjusting the PIR sensitivity based on the selected mode does not seem to work with the MaxRanger hub. I’m still investigating this, perhaps this functionality is not applicable to the MaxRanger hub?
Both cameras installed now and system is performing adequately, nervous about hardware longevity. House is an average size suburban house so no issues with RSSI and I like the fact that the system is not taking to much bandwidth on home Wifi.

Swann MaxRanger 4K – Reliable, Crisp, and Feature-

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using the Swann MaxRanger 4K system for a while now, and I’m genuinely impressed with its overall performance.
Video Quality: The 4K video quality is outstanding – crystal clear during the day and very impressive at night. It captures fine details like number plates and faces even from a decent distance, which adds real value for home or business security.
Motion Sensor & Alerts: The motion detection is accurate and responsive. I get timely alerts, and there are hardly any false triggers. I opted in for the Swann Cloud subscription, and the rich notifications are a fantastic addition – they show you a snapshot of the detected motion straight away, making it much easier to assess the situation quickly.
Night Vision: Night vision on the MaxRanger is excellent. It uses powerful infrared LEDs and also has colour night vision (if there's a bit of ambient light), which gives a clearer view than the usual black-and-white footage.
Installation: Setup was smooth and intuitive. The cameras paired quickly with the recorder. One small note: if you want to adjust certain features, like camera image settings or motion zones, you’ll need to connect the NVR to a screen. So having a long HDMI cable can be useful if your monitor isn't close by. Other than that, it’s very user-friendly.
Mobile App: The Swann Security app works well. Live viewing, playback, and managing notifications are all straightforward. The interface is clean, and I haven’t experienced any dropouts or connection issues – it's been rock solid so far.
Verdict: A great product overall. It delivers on video clarity, motion detection, night vision, and app functionality. The installation is easy for most users, and with the cloud service, it becomes even more powerful. Highly recommended
