Nice WiFi camera, Rubbish security device

Apart from the fact that it only detects when someone is less than 2 metres away and moving (you can sneak in by taking 1 metre steps and waiting for a few seconds), SO IT IS USELESS AND NOT FIT FOR FUNCTION. The set up worked very well. I increased the detection sensitivity and it made little difference. Should just be renamed to nice WiFi camera.

Very clear camera with decent motion detection notifications

Thoroughly impressed - very clear recordings (both night and day, as well as live view) and prompt alerts for movement. Relatively easy install as well. Definitely recommend this if you're looking for a set and forget home security system.
Whats more, there's no on going subscription necessary - unlike pretty much every other major brand. So whilst it might seem slightly more expensive upfront, it won't cost you anymore to run the system. Plus an SD card is already included for local recording storage, and you can always swap it out for larger capacity.
The only drawback is the wifi connectivity. It takes a little bit of time setting up and optimising the connection (as it only runs on 2.4ghz wifi), especially since we have a mesh network where the bands can't be separated. Would have been helpful if there was an option to connect it to a base station which could be cabled via ethernet to the router or connected via 5ghz.

Thank you as well for your constructive feedback regarding Wi-Fi connectivity. This standalone wireless camera is designed to operate on the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band because it offers better range and wall penetration than 5 GHz, helping provide a more stable connection throughout the home. While we understand this can make setup more challenging with some mesh networks that combine both Wi-Fi bands, this design helps ensure reliable performance once connected.
We also appreciate your suggestion regarding an optional base station with Ethernet or 5 GHz connectivity. Swann does offer other security systems that include a base station and support 5 GHz connectivity, although this particular model is designed as a standalone Wi-Fi camera.

We have had this camera installed for a week, and so far it's been exactly what we needed. Being in Western Washington, getting enough sunlight for the solar panel was a concern, but so far it seems like even the small amount of UV rays have kept the camera powered up.

Potential to be excellent, let down by streaming problems.

I just bought two of these with solar panels. Simple to setup, but streaming is hit-and-miss. Sometimes they will stream, often the app says one of them is disconnected. Sometimes comes good when it detects movement, but not always. My opinion? The firmware and software are not good enough. Streaming needs to be available promptly and reliably. Both cameras (when not disconnected) report wifi signal strength at >85%. I am quite disappointed with this, as it has the potential to be a good product. Checking for updates indicates none available. Swann, if you're reading this, please fix your software.
