Significantly wrinkled clothes from the dryer require extra time for ironing or steaming. Wrinkling is usually caused by improper dryer usage.
Causes & Load Management
Load too large? Overloading the drum restricts airflow and tumbling, forcing deep creases into garments under the weight of the load.
Solution: Always dry smaller loads (no more than two-thirds full) to allow free tumbling and even heat distribution, especially for synthetics and cottons.
Load left in the dryer? If clothes sit stationary after the heat stops, residual heat and moisture rapidly set existing folds into permanent wrinkles, particularly for heavy or permanent press fabrics.
Solution: Remove clothes promptly at the end of the cycle and immediately fold or hang them. Extended delays lead to severe wrinkles.Leveraging Advanced Features
Modern dryers offer features to prevent and remove wrinkles.
Utilize the Steam Option: The Steam Option, available on select dryers, uses controlled steam and heat to relax fabric fibers, smoothing wrinkles and reducing odors without a full wash. Use the Steam Refresh cycle for dry, wrinkle-free cottons, blends, knits, and synthetics, and always check the garment care label (do not use on dry-clean-only items).
Quick Refresh: For rapidly smoothing wrinkles and odors from medium to large loads (5–12 items). Very small loads may result in wet spots.
Enhanced Touch-Up: Targets stubborn wrinkles from clothes left sitting or packed tightly. Temperature (Medium default) and cycle time are adjustable.
Was Wrinkle Shield/Prevent Used? This crucial preventative feature on select dryers automatically activates after the main cycle. It intermittently tumbles the laundry without heat to prevent creasing and static during the cool-down phase, resulting in fresher, more presentable garments that need less post-drying care.
