This machine is great when it works...this particular model is WELL known for breaking often. To be fair, when it works, coffee is pretty good.
You must be diligent in not leaving pods in the chamber, and must clean/descale VERY frequently to keep the machine working. I do all of these things but have still had issues with the Next.
Customer service is great and will replace if the machine is defective but it's always a hassle calling to describe the issue, troubleshoot over the phone until they believe it is broken, waiting on the new machine etc. My first machine lasted less than 2 months, the second a whole year, and now on our 3rd.....
I would not recommend the Next, its not worth the trouble. Invest in a better machine, and save yourself the hassle.

For best maintenance for your Vertuo Next, we recommend to always eject the used capsule after every use, run the Clean Cycle once a week to eliminate coffee grounds build up within the brew unit, and descale your machine every three months. All removable spare parts, including the water tank, should be washed by hand at least once a week.

This coffee maker brews SOMETIMES.

I fell in love with Nespresso coffee about 3 years ago. In fact, I own two Vertuo machines, one for each of my residencies. The machine is more attractive than all other coffeemakers. But whoever wrote the machine program is a dig-bat. It is NOT user friendly. It has one button on the top which has some 85 different blink series codes that the customer will have to memorize. While the machine has to think through which code to use to ruin your morning and insult your intelligence with, it's up to you to hold your temper so that whatever condescending twerp wrote its confusing code and designed its machine can laugh all the to the bank. It should have separate buttons to tell us what it needs and other buttons to make it easy to fix. This is not computer class 101—its coffee. I have a 25 year old Keurig that works fine. If Nespresso ever condescends to make the customers' lives easier (and not the dig-bats lives that designed the machine and wrote the code) then I'll return for their coffee, but right now it's not worth it. After three years I give up. It's really a shame. It's hard to deal with snobs. There are plenty of other coffees out there, gotta be one as good as Nespresso that won't ruin my mornings. (Too bad the CEO will never hear this. Everyone I know who has one feels the same. Sales would skyrocket if they would only listen.)

When it Works.....

I am on the second of these machines. The Vertuo Next is compact and I like the coffee it makes. The first one I bought leaked water everywhere after two or so months. I had guests and we brewed a lot of morning coffee so I charged it to someone mishandling it. I still liked the machine so I got a second one, determined to be more mindful of how I used it. I even downloaded the up and performed the necessary maintenance. It's six months now, and after descaling, rinsing, even begging this machine to work, it doesn't. It warms up and has the steady white light, makes it's noise to start to brew then the orange blinking light comes on - no coffee! And even the app says the machine is ready to brew!!!! Needless to say, I'm frustrated, and I can't even get someone from Nespresso on the phone - the hold time is unacceptable.

Doesn't work after 1 month

For the 1st month, it worked half of the time I wanted coffee, then after 1 month, it totally broke down. I tried to troubleshoot it following the instruction book, not helpful at all. I can't even reset it to factory mode. I find a lot of people have the same issue when I google for a solution. I spent my whole night fixing it with endless solutions but still didn't work. Eventually, I gave up and returned it the second day.

2nd Leaker

We got our daughter-in-law a Vertuo Next for Christmas. From the very first day she used it, the machine leaked into the pod holder and rarely made a full cup of coffee. I contacted customer support on her behalf. I will say they were wonderful and quickly sent out a new one. Unfortunately, it leaks also. Not all of the time, but enough to be frustrating. She has given up on it. I guess I have as well. Great coffee when it works. Just don't want that kind of adventure in the morning.

Died in under 6 months

I have owned many other Nespresso machines for home and office and this is the worst. 5 months and after almost 2 hours on the phone with Nespresso they replaced my machine with a different one. This machine is not good. The way the top closes on the coffee pod is very cumbersome and some people can not even do it. This wastes expensive pods. The waste bin is very small and needs emptied quickly. The look of the machine is nice but nothing else is good about this unit. Save your time and money and buy a different style of machine.

Vertuo Next - I purchased 2 and they both failed

I purchased 2 of theses machines, and I’ve had 3 total replacements with the same machine. Each one broke down in some form or fashion. I have the last replacement they sent sitting on my counter not working. I’ve spent hours on the phone with this company troubleshooting and they finally just send replacements and ask me to send the faulty machine back. DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL.

Do not buy this

I’ll start by saying I love Nespresso. When the machine works, it’s very good coffee. I’m on my second Vertuo Next machine, as the first one was replaced as it stopped brewing after a month or two. This second machine is now running into the same problems. They need to discontinue this product. There are obviously manufacturing errors they are failing to address and just continue to send you refurbished machines that eventually break.
