A little difficult to understand

The directions are not clear as to when it is on vs when it is off. It is on only when you see brew carafe/off.

Love it but have a question?

We love this coffee maker but we are wondering if the top lid on the carafe side should stay up while putting the coffee grinds in because it makes it difficult when it constantly comes down and will not stay up?

I just set up my coffee pot. Used maybe 6 times. I went to turn on my coffee pot this morning and 5 min in nothings coming out. I tried off and on only to realize the heating element has to be burnt out. So sad.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
