I bought this item probably about 3 years ago and it was great. After a year or so the lines on the dial started coming off and it started toasting very unevenly. This product looks great on the counter but doesnt last very long. I still use it cause its my only toaster but its not very good.

Our old toaster was getting tired & after a lot of research we decided on the KitchenAid. It's a 4 slice with wide slots & has the high lift lever for short slices. My wife is very pleased with it and sys she's never had one that toasts so evenly and consistently time after time. After more than a half century of marriage she's finally satisfied with the one appliance that gets used nearly every day.
We had a Kitchen Aid 2 slice toaster similar to this one (fairly basic) that lasted 15 years. We quickly replaced it with another Kitchen Aid when it died but upgraded to the 4 slice. Unfortunately it's not comparable. There's an alarm that sounds before the toast pops, which can't be turned off and it's quite obnoxious imo. The "bagel" feature leaves one side toasted and the rest feeling still cold - it doesn't warm it all the way through. I mean, it does the job, but I don't love it.

The levers are kind of sensitive and when the toast pops up I have to push the lever up a little more so I can safely reach the top of the toast.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought my 4 slice KitchenAid Toaster, Red 2½ years ago. It has finally totally died after much hassle with inadequate toasting, especially on the right side. The levers to start the toaster no longer locked in place, the toaster no longer grilled the bread (skinny sourdough, 90% of the time) and the toaster is no longer acceptable.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It takes forever to toast a slice of bread. Ridiculously long, I feel my life ticking away. And the left side broke after less than two years from purchase.
