Does what it says

This defiantly fills a need for me, but I can see how it wouldn't be as useful to everyone. For me it's great because if I wear my watch too much my Eczema goes crazy. It doesn't matter how clean I keep myself and my watch or if I switch wrists at night. Also this is way way way more comfortable than my Fenix while sleeping. Sometimes I'll forget it's there while I'm waking up and making coffee. It's great to be able to charge the watch overnight while not losing data. It really doesn't do anything different than the modern watches. It has all the same stuff. It is nice to save a bit of battery with the watch, but still get full sleep stats including pulse-ox. The band is very comfortable, but I did have it come off one night. I still don't know how that happened, but now I just adjust it every night ad bedtime which takes half a second.
The alarm works quite well and wakes me up nicely. Two taps to snooze, four to stop or just get up and take it off.
The battery does last the whole week. It has some red led's that flash if the battery is low, but honestly in the morning I never notice that. If you pick it up and jiggle it the lights will flash as well. Today I got a popup in the connect app telling me the battery was low.
The only real downside I've noticed is that the morning report on my Fenix8 quit showing up. I don't know if this is because my sleep pattern has been erratic lately or because I'm using the Index Sleep. Also despite my phone and watch sitting right next to me all night, everything takes just a second to sync in the morning before everyone is on the same page.
I'd love to see better integration between the Garmin products. I also use the Index S2 scale and it would be nice to be able to just get up step on and see a little sleep report or something. It would also be nice to get the morning report in the connect app. Maybe someday this would integrate well with other products to regulate sleep temp, fan speed, sunrise alarm clocks.
Overall I think it's worth the cash but don't expect it to do anything more than what your fancy watch already does.

The Index Sleep Monitor is complete unusable
on August 11, 2025
Posted by: LifeOfPabs
I purchased the Index Sleep Monitor as an alternative to my Garmin Forerrunner 745 to track my sleep and because it advertised a smart alarm, which was one of the most essential features for me.
Upon receiving it, I watched videos to make sure I understood how it worked, read the material, and was confident in using this device to track my sleep and help me wake up at the optimal time.
For an entire week, I did not get an accurate reading of my sleep, and not once was I woken up by the smart alarm. Several nights, the tracker didn't record anything. So, after a week of trying to figure out why? I've switched back to my watch, which is more reliable.
Suggestions:
**Live Tracking**
Update Garmin Connect with the ability to live track data. Not being able to see if the device is actually tracking information is poor UX. While I can see the "Connected" label in the app, the fact that the device doesn't have a screen requires a simple way to see if it's tracking information.
This would allow me to determine if I've positioned it incorrectly or if something else is causing the issue.
**Improved Sync With Other Garmin Devices**
The ecosystem forces the work on the user to ensure the devices are synced correctly. Turning off sleep tracking on the watch, setting up tracking on the band, etc.
This should be done for me. And it should be as intuitive as the moment I pair my device, it walks me through what I want to track, then sends the information to my app, which in turn updates my other Garmin devices without me having to do anything.
If you can't do that, then provide me with the step-by-step instructions on how to do it for each Garmin Device. Not a generic set of instructions like, "turn of sleep tracking."
I have been extremely disappointed in this product, because my expectations for it were so high. I truly want an intuitive way to track my sleep and wake up at the optimal time.
As a tech-enthusiast, this should be simple. Yet for me, it was unusable.

Comfortable- Doesn't always register wake ups

I have been wearing this for a few weeks and I like it. First the cuff is comfortable. The battery lasts several nights between charges so happy there. A few times I have woken at night and I am not sure the cuff registers it, but these are usually brief so it might just record it as restless. The data differs from the Fenix 8 I was using for sleep tracking, with the Index cuff recording a higher sleep score.

I use it when I sleep so that I can remove my Garmin watch. I believe it is a little more accurate. Also give my rist time to relax during the night. I would recomend this mainley for the comfort and ease of wearing.

Seemed like a good idea…

The band is somewhat uncomfortable where the two ends wrap through a plastic loop. It needs a flap like the chest strap has. Also the syncing is a mystery and I no longer receive my daily summary that I used to get on my Fenix Pro

Finally I can track my sleep
on August 11, 2025

I made the decision, long before fitness watches with heart rate tracking came about, to get tattoos on my forearms. And so I struggle with HR monitoring -- wearing a chest monitor when I run. Sleeping in a watch is impossible. Inevitably, the tattoos get in the way. The new sleep monitor, which I wear on my untattooed upper arm, solves this for me. Super comfortable. Really works well -- it definitely seems much more accurate than the very erratic wrist measurements.

Expected Better Sleep Results
on August 11, 2025

I received the Small/Medium band two weeks ago. I don’t like sleeping with a watch, but wanted integrated sleep/recovery/HRV results. I was hoping that this would replace the Oura ring that I’ve worn for 5 years. However, I found the results to be very inaccurate against the Oura ring, which I’ve come to find as reliable and accurate (and as corroborated by testers) as are available outside a sleep laboratory. I’m hopeful that it will improve as it adapts over time but am disappointed against hopes and glimpses I’ve seen from napping while wearing the Forerunner 945 and 965 the past few years.
