The Orbi 870 series was easy to set up and has works as advertised. My only complaint is my previous orbi was working perfectly fine as well. However I got an email from Netgear indicating my unit would no longer be supported and would not receive any further security updates. This seems to me like planned obsolescence while taking advantage of the customers. What am I suppose to do with this router that works fine?
On the plus side WiFi7 is faster. On the minus side, the backhaul range is inferior to the older Orbi this one replaced. I put the router and satelite in the SAME location as the previous set-up. The Satellite reported a poor connection to the router.
Product seems good, setup using the app was super buggy. Had to clear everything and start over twice. I was about to just do it manually (I'm fairly technical, but have setup other orbi models without issue). 3rd time's the charm so far.
The Orbi app is very poor. You can't use it to configure port forwarding or other advanced network settings. Also, the Orbi 870 offers very limited configurations for the SSIDs; you can't even configure a SSID to exclusively use the 6GHz band. Finally, unless I've missed it, you can't assign a client to always connect to a particular access point (the router or a satellite).
Connection is worst than other mesh routers that are cheaper. Bought this as a replacement for an existing orbi as I was happy with previous. However when I plugged this download speeds do not increase significantly. Then I bought TP link (and only 11000 BE) and that gave me higher download speeds. TP link is half the price with better speeds and software features. Very disappointed specially being an existing customer
