Tivoli Model One - A Great Radio with Great Sound
on February 20, 2011

From the mind of the inspired Henry Kloss - the Tivoli Model One is an awesome radio that fills most rooms with ease. The FM tuner rivals that in our BOSE Wave radio and it does so at a fraction of the price. The AUX input allows for easy connection of our MP3 players to boot! Yes, it's a bit pricey but when you turn the dials and listen to it - you can easily see why. A great device - something that works in an office, kitchen or bedroom.

Great purchase

If you are having difficulty receiving FM stations, this might be the radio for you. It has no bells and whistles -- just good reception and sound quality. I had to return several other radios because they were apparently not powerful enough to provide reasonably good reception quality. I am in a newly constructed condominium and believe that the building's construction materials interfere with normal radio reception.

Sangean or Tivoli

I have purchased both the Sangean WR-11 AM/FM Table Radio, and the Tivoli Audio Model One AM/FM Classic Walnut Table Radio. Both radios are fine products, and I am very satisfied with both purchases. The bottom line is this...if I could only buy one radio....it would be the Sangean.

WORTH EVERY PENNY!

I'm no audiophile. I'm someone who needs a radio in her powder room, and who likes talk radio on AM. Yes, I'm a dinosaur. I had my previous Tivoli for a least 20 years, and as soon as I can find a repair place, I'll put it back in service in my home. It's extremely difficult (impossible) to get an AM signal on any radio in my home, except on the Tivoli. I can even get really crummy daytime only signals (1400am) on this terrific unit...and they sound clear and strong. Needless to say, the FM signal is equally fabulous, for those moments when I tire of the ranting on AM talk radio. It's worth every penny. Buy it on website and you'll get it quickly. Run!

This is a great little radio. I bought one several years ago for myself after it was recommended by my sister, who loved hers. I bought this one as a mother's day present. My mom was looking for a portable radio which still got good reception and had good audio quality. This radio has all of that and the advantage of having an external antennae if you need it (which I never have), a port for your iPod and for earphones. I don't agree with some reviews that mention it is not good for talk radio. I listen to our local news radio program every morning and it sounds awesome!Great product and well worth the money!!

Nice Radio!

While a bit more expensive than the usual table radio, you'll find this one sounds nothing like a garden variety table radio. I'd heard these radios previously but never bought one until I needed something through which to play an XM receiver. Having an AUXiliary input and good audio fidelity, this radio fit the bill nicely. PLUS, it also does a more than creditable job as an AM and FM radio. If you are in a poor reception area, the radio sports a connection for an external antenna.I am quite happy with the radio and like its subtle, restrained appearance. If black isn't your color, the radio is also available in other colors. The sound is not upper-end audiophile quality, but it bests the daylights out of plastic radios. No tone controls, however I find the audio quality even and quite acceptable.

A comment strictly for audiophiles

Before throwing it away from a window after getting tired of boomy low resolution sound, replace surface-mount capacitors used in the signal path (at least five) with audio-grade ones. You'll realize that the poor sound quality is NOT because of the speaker unit or the base-reflex design. The difference is just dramatic. Good luck!

Tivoli One not so hot on FM

Just a comment on Tivoli One's FM sensitivity. I've got about15 tabletop radios, and have hooked them, one by one, to anoutdoor Yagi antenna.I think I just got a bad one, but the Tivoli had by far the worstfm sensitivity of all 15. Stations that I get wonderfully on my WR-2 orDuo were very weak on the Tivoli.I remember the original radios of this type, and always wanted one.Pity that this one did so poorly. For example, I like to listen to a station 70 miles away. My other radiosget it fine, but the Tivoli almost couldn't hear it.I finally gave it to a Lady I know who uses it for a kitchen radio.By far the best radio I've had is a Boston Acoustics, with a CD player built in.But the Tivoli is just not for DXers.Jerry ODell
