The quality of the appearance and sound is excellant. For a small radio and speaker it is very clear and all the volume you need for a large room. Simplicity of operation a plus.

This tiny radio caught my eye with it's simple classic styling. It has quite a tuning range. I bought it for my girlfriend so that she could listen to weekly Met opera performances. Now it's always on and what a pleasure to listen to. The sound is pretty amazing for a radio of this size. The build quality is excellent as well. She loves it,money well spent.

I've had this one for about five years now and have no complaints what so ever. I bought it for my office at work, and used it almost everyday for listening to radio. After retiring I now use it in my home office for radio and for streaming music from my

FM channel drift

Fine sound when you get it. The tuner is a weak point, the main symptom being FM channel drift. It either has poor phase-loop locking or some other flaw. Can't recommend this.

One of the best products I ever bought.

I can confidently say this is one of the best products I have ever owned. I got mine more than 7 years ago for my 16th birthday and have used it for thousands of hours. It still sounds and looks as beautiful as it did when I first got it. I love the feel of the tuning knob and the solid "click" when you turn the radio on.My Model One has truly added to my life. It fostered my love of NPR and, during my college days, brought in some seriously good local stations.I can't think of another product that combines build quality, performance, and design in this price range as the Model One.

This radio is a very well built. I looked at other radios in stores, but there they all seemed cheaply built. The sound is excellent for a radio this size. Recommend an external AM antenna if you are in an office building.

Great Signal Capture

Like many other reviewers, I needed a radio to get a weak FM signal for my NPR station (in my case, after I moved to a hilly area outside of the town where the broadcast originates). My dedicated stereo tuner could not get this, with an *amplified* antenna. I set up the Tivoli with the simple wire antenna included, and bingo - there it was as clear as could be. To be sure it's only a mono demodulation, but with the excellent speaker design, it's great sound for the price. This is easily worth the price. One confusing point is a single "Rec" RCA jack, suggesting that this could be connected to a *stereo* (the instructions term) - two things wrong with that: (1) it's a single jack, so it has to be mono, and (2) you'll need to turn down the volume as the radio's speaker stays on (which is acknowledged in the directions). With these caveats, this is highly recommended.

Better Than Advertised

The four and five-star reviews seem to me to be the most accurate I read before I bought the radio, start with them. My own findings, to be concise--The build: Case superb; solidly made, fine walnut with very light finish, almost smooth bare wood. Interor was clean, no rusted parts. Components are all commerical grade, not cheap. Workmanship is excellent and the speaker is VERY high quality. No EMI/RFI shielding within the case. Knobs and case parts are plastic but again, not cheap. Case is ported underneath for bass boost around 100-200Hz; more below. The radio: Minimal controls, easy to use, beautiful, simple styling looks as nice as the ad photos. Beige plastic a little darker than ads, not objectionable. LED signal strength lamp about as useful as a tuning meter; my Allentown, PA location poses little challenge for the analog tuner, other areas with crowding or distance issues might need a Terk antenna or a product with digital tuning. NO hum or noise in AM bands at all, lack of shielding could be troublesome in a noisy location. FM selectivity OK for an analog tuner. Once the LED is as bright as it can get on a station, it holds the station well, no drift. The sound: Really fine for what it is, a stylish mono table radio. The speaker does quite well and the amp inside will drive it much louder than I want without distortion. Strong AM voice programs sound like FM; FM music more pleasant than expected, good detail and response. The ported case makes for a muddy-ish boom in AM voice programs, adds presence for Top 40 stuff; makes classical music pop some or thump, depending on the program. I muffle mine by sitting the radio on a thick paperback for the time being and am happy; user's choice.Only gripe is the power cord is bright white, where I would have preferred dark brown. It's petty but the ONLY thing I could critique... Well worth the price, expertly made in China. BUY WITH CONFIDENCE!
