Love the Refrigerator, In Spite of Some Minor Issues

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First the good things about the refrigerator. My white unit is a really nice-looking unit both inside and out. LED lighting makes the interior shine. Who cares about a light in the freezer; my garage lighting provides enough ambient light so that every part of the freezer is visible. There is plenty of storage in the refrigerator part for all my water bottles, soda, beer, wine and food leftovers. The fully adjustable shelves are great. The drawers are a bit flimsy, but they are totally functional and are perfect for this garage unit. The manufacturer must still keep making improvements to this model since the common complaint regarding the doors popping open when you close one is no longer valid. The doors close perfectly and don’t pop open when either is closed. That problem is fixed. OK, now the “not so good.” As some others have indicated, the temperature controls don’t seem to do anything. The fridge portion always runs at 29-32 degrees and the freezer at about 0 degrees. Thinking the fridge is running too cold, I lowered the refrigerator compartment temperature control. No matter where I set the control, the food compartment doesn’t seem to change its temperature. At this point I am not too concerned since my water bottles are still staying liquid. Maybe this is what happens when the refrigerator is in a cold environment. It is still winter here and the ambient temperature in the garage is in the low 40’s. Perhaps in the summer, the temps will increase to a more normal range. So I can’t control the temperature, but so far, it doesn’t seem to matter. Next, when the door is reversed, you are left with three sharp screw holes on the top of the fridge where the old bracket was screwed in. Frigidaire should supply a pop in cover or at least some white screws to go in the holes. Lastly, the front wheels are on brackets that permanently protrude from the bottom of the fridge. These brackets are used to support the bottom of the door depending on how it opens. The unused hinge protrudes from the bottom of the fridge and is not esthetically pleasing. There is always one sticking out depending on which side the bottom of the door rests on. The hinge design should be modified so this bracket can be pushed back so it doesn't stick out. See the picture. Overall though, in spite of the refrigerator’s minor shortcomings, we are happy with the fridge and it is a really nice garage ready unit that we would highly recommend.

Nice refrigerator

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a nice refrigerator which is rated as "garage-ready". I thought that getting the black one would reduce the probability of it attracting dust. Seems untrue. We'll see. This is meant for the garage, which one would expect to have more dust than a kitchen. Also, it would have been appreciated if it had included a heater so it would REALLY be garage-ready for places where the temperature DOES get below 45 degrees. And with an adjustable external thermostat to control the heater. These would add little to the cost if just included, and a real value-added. It is also annoying that this contest refuses to accept a valid email address containing a +. That is just lazy or poor programming.

Old Amana New Frigidaire

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] the openness and spaciousness of the new frig is great. We are still getting used to having the compressor running continuously. Our biggest issue though is that the door has been popping back open after our attempts to close it. This is discouraging as our choice was guided by energy efficiency. The issue has resolved some during our first week of ownership, so we are hoping it was just a fluke and an adjustment issue on our part. We also miss not having a light in the freezer. The best thing though is that we have more room top and bottom, Another discovery though was that the bottom is much lower down than the previous frig so squats are encouraged. Shelf adjustments work well and the cheese drawer is nice and wide.
