No longer a good option

I own six of these cameras and used to avidly recommend them to friends and family for easy to use and affordable home security. Unfortunately, as of July 16 2025 these cameras do not function for security without a subscription! Think HP printers but worse. If you are willing to pay monthly to keep them running then these may still be a good option for you. It is a shame to lose a previously great home security option. I used these to keep an eye on my kittens and loved the sound features, clear image, and time-stamped event images.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Loved it until they changed their subscription

I LOVED the Roku camera and it’s what I recommended to anyone that was looking for cameras for their homes. I didn’t have the subscription because without it you could still get snapshot pictures of what triggered the motion detected alarm. With us being on an extremely tight budget that feature was unexplainably important because we can shell out extra money each month for a subscription. Roku has now changed that feature as of 3 days ago and now unless you’re watching the live feed you don’t receive any knowledge of what was happening in your cameras view. Extremely disappointing because I really did love the cameras for their price point and because they didn’t force you to get a subscription but now they are forcing you to

Run Away

Bought a Roku indoor camera and installed a 32 gig card. After downloading the app, I could view events on the card through the app and view through the camera real time on my phone.
I purchased 2 more cameras and was going to install them but I could not see new events anymore. Tried to backup and reload the memory card but it still wouldn’t show new events. After reading the instructions again, I am not getting new events on the memory card so I tried to call for support. No support! Chat bot support is worthless and NO REAL SUPPORT !!!
I would NOT suggest buying the Roku line of products because when they do not work, you will have no recourse. BTW I have 3 Roku indoor cameras for sale cheap…

Hello Dandy! Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. I want to clarify that the SD card slot is available only on the older two-legged indoor camera model (CS1000X). The newer one-legged model (SCS11R) does not include an SD card slot. If you’d like to view recorded video events, you can sign up for a Roku Smart Home Subscription. Useless unless you buy subscription

I've been using the roku cameras for over 2 years and was very happy with them. I have 8. Until a couple months ago. Roku decided to stop providing still images of events in an attempt to force you to buy a subscription. No warning. They still send notifications but this makes the cameras virtually useless
unless you are watching live stream. Im going back to my geeni cameras. No subscription needed.
