It’s amazing with one caveat.

So I will start with the caveat, if you have a 1040 especially the solar model it won’t feel like a transformative upgrade. The device does everything aside from battery life a little better than the 1040 solar that I had prior. The battery life isn’t a deal breaker nor is it bad. I’m charging every 300 miles with full functionality. It has no flaws to speak of but aside from the better UI and screen it doesn’t feel like it added anything from the 1040. If you have a 540 it would be a big upgrade and if you have a 30 series or older go for it.

Best Edge Screen Ever!

With me getting older, having a big, bright screen was a major requirement and the Edge 1050 delivers on that and more! I upgraded from a 1030 and the difference is night and day. The 1050 is not only brighter, but the responsiveness is like using a mobile phone. Some other likes and dislikes: - The bell is nice but I can’t access easily with my older DI2 setup. - The community hazards is a good idea but needs more adoption in my area to be useful. I haven’t had a hazard warn me of something I wouldn’t have caught myself. - I like the new Real Time Stamina. Seems to accurately reflect my potential at any point of a ride. - Swiping up to get the widget glances is a nice touch. - Identifying high use streets and paths in the map is annoying. There needs to be a heat map like coloring to distinguish the roads most taken when just riding in an area you don’t know. - Climbpro has rarely shown my accurate location on the hill. It seems to represent me being about 5-10% further along than I actually am (even with the highest location accuracy setting). - Battery life has been fine. Recent 40 mile ride used up about 20% of battery from full. - Setup was a nightmare. I still have so many problems loading ConnectIQ fields.
4 stars overall, but can anticipate a 5 star device with upgrades to ConnectIQ usage, and some mapping / routing improvements.

Like it more than expected

I'm not nor ever have been a competitive cyclist, and at 78yo this is truer than ever. In fact, I didn't see any need to upgrade to this device except that my wife has had her eye on "inheriting" my 1030 Plus. So I went ahead and bought the 1050 and have been more than pleased with its features (and I probably only use about 10% of what's there!). Mainly it's the bright, colorful, hi-res screen that makes a huge difference. Colors pop like never before and even the smallest fonts are crisp and clear (see the photo of the MyEdge2 iQConnect app screen).
Another welcome improvement is that it appears to respond quicker to gradient changes than the 1030+ did. I haven't yet used it to navigate a preloaded route but that's one of my prime uses for it, and the finer detail on the map screen should be useful. On my rides so far I've even been notified of construction, hazards, or heavy traffic ahead but I haven't yet figured out how to report those types of conditions.
So overall I'm very happy with my purchase and my wife is also happy with her "new" 1030 Plus!

Just amazing the clarity of the screens, especially the maps. The ability to add a course and get hill climb data before and after is a game changer! Garmin is like no other!

Great computer and lots of features

Happy over all and has every feature you can imagine. However the UI is a little clunky, it’s not super easy to use some functions which take a bit of scrolling around, also not super intuitive so need to study the videos. Overall great computer and sure they can improve it going forward.

Sorely disappointed

I am on my fourth 1050 and keep having it lock up on me. I am sure it has to be a glitch in my Apple products (MacBook Pro 16", iPhone 14 Pro). I am anxiously awaiting a solution from Garmin engineers. I am now stuck with a beautiful new one that is also locked! Seems when adding sensors this problem occurs.
