Amazing Upgrade

I have been an Edge user for many years. I thoroughly enjoyed the Garmin Edge 1000. Unfortunately, the on/off button disintegrated...Garmin treated me well as a small contemsation - even though it was well out of warranty. I decided to purchase the 1050. WOW! What a significant upgrade. The screen is bright, the audio is terrific, and the various options are excellent. Using the old Alice in Wonderland comparison, I have gone from black and white to full color. Fantastic unit!!!

I really want to see a day when my Garmin can connect to the internet or not battle my Garmin watch for bluetooth update bandwidth. This is a solid update if your looking for beep and boops and updates about pothole every five second. If you must know every Segment and climb in the vicinity while getting hit up by text messages, etc. until your ready to just throw it onto the side of the road. The real letdown is when you can't upload your hard fought ride for whatever reason even though this things main just is to upload your ride. It's criminal how buggy these things are and how poor the updates are year after year. I just want something reliable that can tell me when to turn on time and then post it online. How hard is that?

Upgraded from an Edge 1000. The performance stats given during and after the ride has changed my riding. So much more capability that I’m still learning it all. Bigger screen is also nice while riding.

The system is both simple and capable of comprehensively addressing all geolocation needs as well as fitness tracking, analysis and planning. Displays can be constructed with a variety of inputs depending upon your particular information requirements

By far the best Garmin Cycling product to date and the God Father of all cycling head units. By a long shot the best colored screen on the market.

Not impressed..

So far, I am not impressed with this device. Seems rain changes how the screen behaves. It would be great if Garmin sensors last longer so I could fully used all features of this device. Is it worthed that much money? I dont know.. But I would be happy to pay less for it

Good with minor complaints

I like the new Edge 1050. Replaced my Edge 1040 which I gave to my wife. The screen is bright and easy to use. The 1050 was easy to set up. Three minor complaints: 1. The screen cover/glass is highly reflective, unlike the 1040. When riding in bright sun and at the right angle, the glint off the screen is piercingly bright. Wish the screen had a non-reflective coating. It's irritating to the eyes, even with sunglasses. 2. The battery life is definitely shorter than the 1040 (non-solar). Makes sense since the screen is brighter. Still plenty of battery for a five- or six-hour ride, but definitely needs more charging than the 1040. 3. Every time I finish a ride, the 1050 congratulates me on a new "longest distance" PR which is not true. I have no idea how to get it to stop doing this. This is something the 1050 has been doing since its launch, judging by forum postings. No software upgrade has fixed this glitch. This did not happen with the 1040.
Other than that, I'm pleased with the 1050. I would recommend it, especially for those who might be traveling and need downloaded maps/routes.

Garmin Edge 1050 is a Lifesaver

The Garmin Edge 1050 is the best bike computer I have ever owned. The bell chime feature is perfect for riding on trails and in crowds. The Emergency Alarm feature is a life saver. It alerted my family when I had a bike crash and notified them immediately and provided them with the precise location of the accident.
