Tremendous upgrade from the edge 1000. Purchased with new Trek bike. Well worth every penny.

Great features hard to connect with Apple

It’s challenging to connect but once everything is working it works out. I think to improve it you should be able to sync a heart rate to Garmin edge easily with Apple watch

Mostly excellent

The 1050 is definitely the most capable and fully featured GPS bike computer available currently. After trying a Karoo 3, the 1050 has many many more features, is more flexible and customizable in terms of screen layouts and data available (especially with ConnectIQ apps), has a bright and beautiful screen and a responsive touchscreen, and generally works very well. Top units form Wahoo and Hammerhead can’t touch the 1050 for feature richness, mapping quality, or user customization.
A few minor annoyances that Garmin will, hopefully, fix at some point: 1) Virtual Partner is an annoying and confusing feature that no one I know likes. It can’t be turned off, which is frankly absurd. Everything else on this device is user-selectable, let us turn this off! 2) Maps are not terribly readable. A purple navigation line on a map with popularity indicated by shades of purple just doesn’t pop. Allowing the user to select the color of the navigation line (e.g. red or yellow, as Karoo uses) and potentially making that line thicker, would help a lot. 3) Others have noted it, but the “upcoming elevation” trace, especially on the map screen, is a bit of a random number generator and therefore not that useful. Adding scale, and letting the user program that scale to show upcoming 100/500/1000M etc. would make it much more useful. 4) The unit does a LOT of stuff, and ships with most of its alarms and notifications turned on by default. Not a negative necessarily, but plan to spend some time learning about these and turning off stuff you don’t want/need. More customization of audio alerts would also be nice, e.g. ability to have an audible eat/drink alert but not audio turn alerts. Currently these and many other alerts turn off/on together.

Great display, fast pairing

I’ve found everything from the product reviews I’ve seen on the 1050 to be true. The display is great, it pairs quickly. I like that it provides climb data even if you don’t have a route loaded. Battery life is good but it may not be the best device for extreme bikepacking where you’re off off grid for multiple days.

Excellent gradient response.

My previous device was the Edge 1030+. My only complaint was its very slow gradient change response. The 1050 has a much faster response. Over all it is a terrific device. I’m a very satisfied customer

Best cycling computer I've owned

The brighter screen is a welcome update that sets the Edge 1050 apart from all the others. The screen is clearly visible in all lighting conditions, which can't be said for it's predecessors or competiton. The addion of the speaker allows unique audio prompts for upcomming left or right turns when using navigation, and the electronic bell sounds authentic. Updates to the screen layout and user interface make using the farious features and options intuitive. This update from Garmin sets the Edge 1050 as my recommended cycling computer!

Looks great

I got it for Christmas. I have only used it once. I had the Edge 1000 that I passed on to my son. Had to make a few adjustments and still learning features. Doing segments are different looking and the format also. Just takes getting used to.

I can hear it!!!

I’ve used a 1040 for over a year and had to pair a headset with the radar unit to hear traffic warnings and get turn-by-turn queues due to my aged ears. The 1050 is plenty loud and I no longer need the headset! The additional details provided on the data pages is an unexpected bonus! Thanks Garmin!
