Surprised Me & Surpassed Expectations

I didn't expect this set to be as fun or as visually captivating as it was. The builds are simple, but with some unexpected and creative techniques - off the top of my head, I really liked the finishing for rhodochrosite, it felt very satisfying. I went into this primarily interested in the watermelon tourmaline and the amethyst geode, but to my surprise, my favorite is the tangerine quartz. The way the light hits it, the color gradient from trans-orange to yellow to clear... it is simply beautiful. But they all are! I display them with my other stones and they truly fit right in, in a way I can't imagine anything else I make in Lego integrating into real life. Very interesting and beautiful set.

Exciting and Educational

A parent in my 40s, a Lego lover since childhood. This has been my favorite modern build to date. With every mineral I was able to compare to the very same minerals we have collected at home. My children and I were able to share and experience three things I love. Legos, Minerals, and my kiddos.

Just not worth what the set actually is

I really enjoyed the concept of this Lego ideas set, but if I could return this Lego and get my money back I probably would. I didn’t really like the looks of some of the stones and there was parts I wish they sent different Lego pieces for. Overall a good set for others, just not my favorite.

A fun build

I purchased this set while we were on vacation. We had just finished seeing a mineral display at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. My daughter is all about minerals and I purchased this for the both of us. The build is fun and it was fun reading about the minerals in the instructions. Definitely recommend getting this set.

Not as cool as it could have been

I received this as a gift for completing my graduate gemologist diploma; it was a really thoughtful gift and it looked pretty cool in pictures. I could accurately identify all the gems, so kudos for that. It's hard to explain but there's just something off about it. The fluorite looks like a fish and I cannot un-see a fish when I look at it. The Watermelon tourmaline looks like a pill container and is by far the worst looking one, the pyrite is way too lackluster (literally). If they couldn't accomplish the almost mirror shine of it then pick something else. The amethyst and rhodochrosite are the best ones. Having two quartz-based minerals is sort of lazy, they would have been better off keeping the emerald from the prototype. I don't have an issue with the look of the stands, but they are very repetitive to build. Overall, this is a really fun set for someone like me say they to have, but I feel like it could have been better executed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
