Poor engineering or poor quality?
on June 28, 2025

Bought this as a replacement and not much options for the space so fine, ok to pay the higher price. The low blow is the mounting holes don’t line up with any of the mounting kits and the holes for the screw are slanted and mid-align. Wjhat kind of poor engineering or is it quality issues. Can’t tell since I got two different ones and both have the same issues. Why???? So frustrating! I had most of my appliances with GE products but now questioning if GE is the way to go for future purchases
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We'd like to assist you with your microwave. When replacing an Over-the-Range Microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new unit should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts and exhaust adapter should also be used.

For more information on this, please refer to the article here:

New model to replace a predecessor
on January 25, 2025

The mounting for this new microwave, which is a replacement for a similar model. It requires a kit because the mounting is not symmetrical. Even with a kit, I can't mount it without modifying the kitchen cabinet. Tried cooking popcorn in it last night. The old 800W microwave (A GE Profile 1.1) cooked it in 21/2 min. The new one needs 4 min to do the same thing.

Cheap Door Opening Button Failed
on February 5, 2025

A real shame an otherwise nice product is ruined by the cheap door button and opening mechanism. From day one I knew it was only a matter of time before it broke. And of course it did. A microwave door is going to be opened and closed a thousand times, but GE thought it was a good idea to use plastic hinges and a cheap button mechanism that won't last more than a few years with normal use. Even before it finally failed, we suffered through years of the cheap button not having enough force to actually open the door. Since this is the major touchpoint of the entire microwave, it makes no sense to create a problem here when you can do better than that. Note to engineers: Get rid of the cheap button that will fail. Put a pull handle on the door that will never fail. Problem solved.

Awful!

This is my third GE Profile Spacemaker microwave. The first one was pretty good but the second one that I just replace was awful. The frame around the door release popped up after about 2-weeks and I had to tape it down with masking tape. The power is abysmal. I had to replace this microwave with this same model because the space I have for it will not accommodate any other model. I was hoping to be able to re-use the same trim kit but no, GE made this new microwave just a 1/4 inch bigger without any improvements so I had to get a new trim kit as well - not inexpensive. If you have options, take them.

We appreciate you being a part of the GE Appliances family. We are saddened to hear of your experience with your second replacement microwave, and we are confident that this third one will be the charm and serve you well for many years to come. Our trim kits are model-specific, so it is not abnormal to have to replace the trim kit when a new microwave model replaces an old one. If any assistance is ever needed with this microwave, we're always here to help!

I contacted the GE online chat for assistance in selecting the best fitting microwave to replace a 15 year old GE built in unit that had died. It fit perfectly. Very happy with the unit.

Okay Microwave if built in needed.

Love this small built-in capable microwave. Just wish I didn’t have to replace it every 7-9 years. Last one cost so much to fix it wasn’t worth it. Needs new feature upgrades such as LED interior light, fan run option to remove moisture from interior, or light off button so you can leave the door open to dry out. No instructions provided for the WiFi option. Unit had a small ding in the door front 😠

We want to assist with the heating performance of your microwave. There are many factors that can affect cooking times. For example, the set power level and the cookware used. You can adjust the power level of your microwave by pressing ‘Cook Time’, entering the time, pressing Power Level, entering the desired level (1-10), and pressing start. We recommend a power level of 10 for boiling liquids and a power level of 7 for reheating. You can find additional troubleshooting for food or beverages taking too long to heat at this link: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=18799

Additionally, if you’d like to test that your microwave is operating properly, please follow the steps at this link: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=16857

This model does feature a “Beverage” mode that is designed to heat up coffee or other beverages like tea, hot chocolate, etc. If desired, you can utilize this feature as it uses auto cook sensor technology to always get your beverages to the appropriate hot temperature. This feature is located at the top middle of the control panel, and it will need to be pressed only once to activate it.

Good Replacement
on June 26, 2025
Posted by: JAWs79
Bought this as a replacement to another GE Profile Spacemaker, so dimensions were critical. This is the same, only about 10 years newer than the other one that we really liked and was still working well, but the paint had chipped after someone put in a metal glass. So, in comparison, this one is noticeably quieter than the old one. I do also like the ability to hook up to the WiFi, but the only advantage I see to that so far is keeping the clock automatically set the clock. The only downside in comparison is the buttons are in different places (to be expected) and it seems like you have to press them harder to get them to register. I hope it functions as flawlessly as the last one did for as long or longer than it did too.
