This is my third purchase of their grinder. The first two broke after about 7 years. They seem to have fixed the lid problem that always got clogged up, the cleaning of the ground beans shoot with a clean light and a light telling you to clean the system with vinegar. These problems made me have to buy a new one twice because it was to late to fix. These makers are expensive so it’s about time they fixed it, I hope.

I purchased the DGB-850 to replace a DGB-900 that died after five years of reliable service brewing thousands of great cups of coffee. I would have been happy to purchase another DGB-900 but unfortunately this product was discontinued so I went with what appeared to be the closest replacement product.
Although the DGB-850 has a 10-cup capacity versus 12 cups for the DGB-900, this was not an issue as I am the only coffee drinker in the house. Unless we have coffee drinking visitors, I normally set the coffeemaker to brew 4 cups with the strength setting at medium.
The first thing that I noticed about the DGB-850 was that at a strength setting of medium, the coffee that resulted was definitely weaker than the DGB-900 at its medium setting using the same brand of coffee beans. Increasing the strength setting to maximum on the DGB-850 produced a satisfactory strength. However, after a couple of weeks of operation at maximum strength the flavor of the brewed coffee seems to be fading even though the hopper is full of coffee beans. I suspect that ground coffee may be building up in the burr grinder so I followed the instructions in the user manual on how to clean the burr grinder. On the DGB-900 it was easy to clean out the ground coffee that would build up in the burr grinder and I would do this every time I refilled the hopper. On the DGB-850, there is no obvious way to do this.
