Only tried this once, uses a lot of gas but is more controlled than when wood fired. Not so hot as hardwood. Planning another attempt soon.

Great Item and easier to use than wood

I tried the wood and like the theatre and smell but in my opinion the gas regulator gives a more consistent level of heat - you need propane gas (also called patio gas) - its a different fitting to calor gas - so just a watch out. Hope this helps

Works well. fires up so quickly - control of gas and therefore temperature takes some getting used to. Glad I invested in it though. A must have option.
