For the longest the purifier was registering at 0. I thought it wasn't working. We have a lot of smoke from fires now and the numbers haved moved especially during the day. I only keep a few windows open because we have no AC and several heat advisories lately. The numbers go up during the day and are down at night. I believe it is doing what it needs to.
Pros: Lots of surface area with the deep folds in the Hepa filter.Cons: Charcoal filter is not much thicker than the one on the standard filter. Perhaps there is more to its technology than meets the eye, but from my experience with previous air filters, the more the charcoal the better it filters VOC's and other gases. Another con is that the filter was shipped in a plastic bag and the box that holds the filter was badly crushed. Several of the filters pleats are bent and will not hold their original shape. May not make a difference, but it might create unwanted noise. I'll find out when I use the filter. One more issue, I love the look of the Blueair filters and the controls are excellent, but the prefilter, which is basically like a sock pulled over the Hepa filter gets very dusty because it's a filter and this has to be either vaccumedor washed. I'd much prefer a prefilter that is enclosed within the purifier and can be replaced when dirty. Less maintenance and looks better.
Easy to change the filter and reset the unit for the new filter. Sometimes when cooking the smoke generated has triggered the unit across the house. Does a great job circulating the air quickly.
I have a problem with marijuana smoke from my upstairs neighbors. The filters help a lot, but I'm still suffering some effects from it. I still wake up with ringing in my ears. That is IN PART, due to the marijuana smoke.
