Mixed feelings

I’ll admit I am new to the world of super powerful, expensive blenders and I’m not a green-smoothie-every-day person. However, I was frustrated with my old blender which had a heavy glass jar, and could barely make a frozen smoothie with 15 minutes of opening and stirring and opening and stirring. I had pretty much given up on using it and mainly used an immersion blender which is so darn convenient. The old blender was 20-some years old so I thought I would try a new machine. Perhaps if smoothies were easier I would make them more often especially on pre-dawn get ups when food is so hard to get down, and it would be another way to use all that kale in the garden. Maybe I would use my blender more if it was easier to use and did a better job. So I splurged for the Super Q, impressed with the warranty and the good reviews.
The blender arrived promptly in a plain outer box, thank you, and very well packed. I knew it would be a tight fit under the cabinet, but I wanted to leave it out so I’d use it more. Well, it’s huge! Okay, I can pull it out to use it, but I’m pretty minimalist about my counters so it had better be worth it.
Its first job was a frozen smoothie in the personal cup. I used the very helpful recipe book as a guideline to quantities, trying not to overload it with frozen fruit. Added a little protein powder and, nope—the frozen fruit got stuck. I had to unscrew the cup twice and scrape it. Finally it finished the smoothie, still faster than the old blender but pretty disappointing. I guess the cup would be better for a green smoothie without any frozen fruit. But I don’t really care about the cup thing. For some people it would be one thing less to wash, though you can’t really wash it with warm water on the blender.
So second try, the jug. This smoothie processed just fine and I had the tamper and scraper at hand if needed, but they weren’t needed. Cleaned the jug on the clean cycle and perfectly happy. Much easier than the two-part screw off glass jug on the old machine. I’m still not the biggest smoothie fan (they just don’t sustain me for long) but I’ll have to experiment.
Next, I used the blender to turn some cooked tomatoes into a puree. Yes, I included the seeds and peels since we agree at my house that peeling and coring is not necessary. The blender did a great job of obliterating the seeds and peels and tuning it into a beautiful sauce. Winner.
This is a very nice, sturdy machine and not too noisy, relatively speaking. On ski mornings at 5:30 a.m. when the husband is still sleeping, I don’t want to wake him with the searing grind of my breakfast smoothie. So far I haven’t woken him despite sound carrying very well from the kitchen to bedroom. Must be the lower pitch. Clean up super easy. I think it will be powerful enough for most anything.
I’m disappointed to learn that grinding nuts and such will spoil the expensive jar, so I may not try that. We’ll see. I had hoped for more uses for a blender, but this inhibits me from trying some of those uses. Didn’t have to worry about that with a glass jar. The controls are printed too small and without enough contrast so they’re very hard to read. I have to get reading glasses or a flashlight, even with under counter lights. They need to be backlit.
I’ll leave the machine out for a while and experiment with more smoothie recipes. But eventually it’s going in the cabinet. It’s just too big and I’m not going to use it every day. I have mixed feelings about this purchase. I’m not sure how much of it is that I’m not a big smoothie drinker. Maybe it would have more value to someone who drinks a smoothie daily. I just wanted a blender that works well for a range of uses including smoothies. Based on reviews I’ve read, this seems elusive.

I love my SuperQ and the quality of the product is a 10!
I just wish that the attachment to remove the air when making smoothies was of the same quality. Not worth what it cost me.

So far so good but three days after receiving this product our not quite five month old Breville toaster completely died I feel it is much to early to say more.

Great machine we had the old model for 20 years and we loved it. The Super Q is great but we did not like the plastic jug much.
