SmartDoor with some Pros, but doesn't meet my standards

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had a regular PetSafe large dog door already, with roughly 11"x17" opening for 2 large dogs. Replaced with the new large SmartDoor and as of right now, is an okay door, seems to be too large for what is needed, with no manual bypass.
Initial setup of the door before installing was easy. Downloaded the app and registered, linked with wifi, and connected with the door, all standard simple process. Linked the tag with it and everything worked. This took about 5 mins.
First impression, the housing for the door seems to be way larger than needed. I understand it takes 4 large d cell batteries, but for having just an RFID antenna and simple locking mechanism, the inside portion of the housing seems bigger than necessary.
The new smart door has about the same opening, but the cutout needed is much larger. Removed the metal door from the frame, then had to make a much larger cut out. This took about an hour from set up to finish.
Once done with the cutout, I hung the door and installed the new smart door. It went in ok, a little difficult to match the screws up but was fine. This step took about 10 minutes. Though there are a lot of gaps around the actual through part of the door. The non-smart door was a tight fit and the holes for the screws were drilled through the door, separate from the cutout opening. On the new smart door, the holes are in the area of the overall cutout, which I didn't like. It's just making a large air gap I don't think is necessary. I think the inside portion of the housing is so large since all the strength for holding it in place is in the housing, with limited areas in contact with the actual door. If the cutout was smaller, holes drilled through the door, then the housing could be smaller overall.
Once installed, everything worked. Did notice that if batteries die, there is no manual lock/unlock. So, if you don't have any batteries handy, then the door will be locked until batteries are replaced.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It is also important to note that in most cases it is best to use an installation adaptor when installing this door in a metal door; this helps prevent interference and strain. Amazing smart pet door

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This petsafe smart door is super easy to install and connect it comes with 1 key to connect to wifi and it allows the door to unlock and let my dog come in and out easily and it has to have the key to enter and exit. It was very easy to set up. And when you own more than one dog you can always buy more tags

Easy option to create access for pets!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using our medium smart door for a little over a month now and it’s made life so much easier! With our cats wanting access to our bedroom at night, but us wanting the door to be closed, we were in a bit of a predicament. This door has changed that! The dogs have access in and out all night to come into and leave our bedroom and our dogs are kept in with us! I love the ease of setup and install and the app has been handy !

No more mice in my house

We used to have an outdated pet door for our Malamute Hugo. We love being able to give our dog the freedom to go outside whenever he pleases. It worked great but we would still find mice in our house around the same time each year. If there is anything that I absolutely despise, it is having to get rid of mice. We bought this door in order to continue allowing Hugo to go in and out as he pleases and to curb the mice problem we were having. It has exceeded our expectations in both of these categories. The SmartDoor Connected Pet Door even allows us to set times where the door becomes locked for the duration of the night so Hugo cannot go outside when we don't want him to. Would definitely recommend!

I love that I can easily control the door through my phone at any time to let the dog out. Extremely convenient! Installation was very straight forward, and went smoothly. I really appreciate the fact that it is weatherproof and seals so well. It is extremely well made and functions even better than I hoped! Highly recommend it.

Works Great!

It is a heated and air conditioned space that our dogs can go during the hot and cold seasons for relief, water, and food. The door unlocks automatically from the collar key and does not let any other stray pets or forest animals.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This dog door is such a time saver!!! One of the worst parts of owning pets is having to bring them outside constantly!!! Where has this been all my life!!? I don't want my cats coming inside my house, so I've never been able to have a dog door. This is so cool because you can either use the dogs microchip OR just use the pet door "key" on their normal collar. The other thing that's so unique about this is the fact that you can use your app to control the dog door when you're not home! You can also get notified when they go in or out & set a schedule to lock/unlock the door. I feel like Petsafe has thought of everything with this product. They include videos to train your dogs how to use a dog door, but I have never had a problem with this. They might be a little nervous at first to push the flap, but once they get the hang of it, they'll be flying through full speed ahead!!
Although I do feel the price of this dog door is quite high.... the features it has save so much time and hassle, by allowing pets to go outside on their own and keeping other animals out. Highly recommended!
