Best Pet Door in its class!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the best pet door in its class. The installation process is fairly easy for fellow DIYers out there. Once installed, there is not much that PetSafe didn’t think about. From the tinted flap to the app that accompanies the door. From the app you can set schedules for your pets and get notified each time the door is used. It is great for those late nights out or just for your pet that likes to go in and out like my Husky. My dog loves his door and almost immediately understood how to use it. I highly recommend this to anyone with pets that is looking for a reliable pet door with safety and security in mind.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Company, Great Pet Door.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Summary: If you want a pet door with (really) smart features - go ahead and buy this. Great Quality, Great Support, and Great Instructions. You really can't go wrong here.
The door works great, as described, and seems to be really well made. Everything works as stated, and the app works great.
The instructions / installation manual is *probably* the best I've ever seen. Absolutely perfect and accurate, and helpful. Seems like a little thing, but when you're putting a hole in your wall / door, it matters.
The customer service is legit (see below for why I had to contact them): Little to no wait, a helpful, easy to understand, and capable human answered, etc.
Training the dogs was easier that expected. We have a 1+ year old mini aussiedoodle and 2 border collies that are just 3 months old. The aussiedoodle has used a soft flap pet door a few times at a friends house, and the border collies are a little shy/skittish, so I was a little worried. Again - the included instructions for training your pet were amazing. We've had the door installed for less than a week, and all three are now using it with no issues.
Story Time: This little door and I went on an adventure together. We have full length glass doors, so I decided to purchase a used, half glass, door and refurbish it a bit. After about 12 hours of work, I had a pretty good door with fresh paint and a big hole in the bottom hung and waiting for it's new doggie door. The installation was a breeze, I got it installed and caulked around the outside in no time.
Then I put the batteries back in and it didn't work. It was doing some kind of boot loop thing. The bigger problem was that it was locked by default, and wouldn't even turn on, so I couldn't even open it. I called support (keep in mind, this product hadn't been widely released yet I don't think) and explained what was going on. They almost immediately offered to send a new unit - until I explained it was working before I installed it, and it was installed in a metal door.
The instructions clearly state that if the door has 'a lot' of metal, it needs the metal door adapter. My door was metal plated, with a foam core, so I was hoping I'd be ok. I wasn't.
I eventually took the pet door back out, and it started working great, so it was determined that I needed the metal door adapter. The good news is that once I removed it, I was able to turn it on all the way and unlock it, then put it back in the door. This was great, since the dogs could at least use it until the adapter came in. Once the adapter came in (with it's own set of instructions that were also amazing) I got it installed and the pet door works great.

Fantastic door!

We installed through the wall where our existing door was and it was a piece of cake with the extra tunnel pieces we were able to acquire. The door hasn’t dropped from WiFi even once in the several weeks we’ve had it installed. Super happy with it. Just wish our dog wouldn’t be so scared but he is a puppy.

SmartDoor with some Pros, but doesn't meet my standards

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had a regular PetSafe large dog door already, with roughly 11"x17" opening for 2 large dogs. Replaced with the new large SmartDoor and as of right now, is an okay door, seems to be too large for what is needed, with no manual bypass.
Initial setup of the door before installing was easy. Downloaded the app and registered, linked with wifi, and connected with the door, all standard simple process. Linked the tag with it and everything worked. This took about 5 mins.
First impression, the housing for the door seems to be way larger than needed. I understand it takes 4 large d cell batteries, but for having just an RFID antenna and simple locking mechanism, the inside portion of the housing seems bigger than necessary.
The new smart door has about the same opening, but the cutout needed is much larger. Removed the metal door from the frame, then had to make a much larger cut out. This took about an hour from set up to finish.
Once done with the cutout, I hung the door and installed the new smart door. It went in ok, a little difficult to match the screws up but was fine. This step took about 10 minutes. Though there are a lot of gaps around the actual through part of the door. The non-smart door was a tight fit and the holes for the screws were drilled through the door, separate from the cutout opening. On the new smart door, the holes are in the area of the overall cutout, which I didn't like. It's just making a large air gap I don't think is necessary. I think the inside portion of the housing is so large since all the strength for holding it in place is in the housing, with limited areas in contact with the actual door. If the cutout was smaller, holes drilled through the door, then the housing could be smaller overall.
Once installed, everything worked. Did notice that if batteries die, there is no manual lock/unlock. So, if you don't have any batteries handy, then the door will be locked until batteries are replaced.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It is also important to note that in most cases it is best to use an installation adaptor when installing this door in a metal door; this helps prevent interference and strain. Safe outdoor system

Large but perfect

We have a golden and she loves running in and out of the house. It was easy to setup and is well built. Im excited to see it in use during the summer months. This will be a huge help for us. I would highly recommend. PetSafe products have never failed us yet!

Dog fun

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The SmartDoor™ Connected Pet Door is great when I am home cooking dinner or busy doing stuff around the house it lets my dogs go and run around out side and play and use the bathroom. The My PetSafe® app, is good with manage schedules, and to get notifications, with the door so I can remotely control the pet door right through my phone. I like that I am able to set individual schedules for them. With the app. And the multi-point lock on the flap to keep my dog safe inside and other animals out. I have the Large size It is a great size for my pitbull and pug.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Petsafe Smart door is great. Itwas a pretty simple install and connects to your home network easily. It allows me to schedule when I let my animals in or out of the house. With the tags per pet it will also sense which animals are allowed out of the house. It's nice because it helps me to keep them safe even away from home. Every pet owner needs this!
