Its worth it

Well built unit, sturdy. Big bright touchscreen, easy to read. Fully featured. If you have used recent GPS map or Montana units the menus can be very deep but quickly understandable. It acquires position so quickly and i usually get accuracy down to 6ft. The map overlays are great. Only reason I cant give it 5 stars is because the wasn't a lanyard or carabiner included so either in hand or pocket. Great item.

Does what it is supposed to, software needs rework

An incredible amount of functionality.
The screen is clear, and pixel density is good enough that text is clear in any weather, and touch responsiveness is as good a modern smartphone.
What I have an issue with is the user interface and intuitiveness. I’ve have only used the InReach Mini, and learning how to do everything I wanted with the Montana 710 was a bit difficult. The online FAQs and help articles are honestly really poor, and do not tell me what I need, especially in regard to uploading my own KMZs or other GIS files to the device.

Great Handheld GPS, Needs Time to Master.

I've had this device close to a year and only now do I have an understanding of how it works. It is a sophisticated machine and any novice should expect a steep learning curb.

First GPS device. I bought this as another way to communicate with family members in the area. I have both HAM & GMRS radios. I’m licensed and have provided GMRS radios to family.
Reason for adding the Garmin devices is that if there is a major disaster and internet, cell service and radio repeaters are down, I can still communicate via text.
As I explore the device, I’m impressed by the functionality and stability of the software. Using Basecamp planning both hiking a vehicle trips.
I think I made a good purchase that is going to serve my plan well.

All that I wanted plus more

I currently own 3 Garmin watches and now 2 Garmin handhelds. Every one still works flawlessly. I have just decided to upgrade each item slowly over the years. They are worth every penny and pretty much indestructible. The Montana 710 I is a beautiful touchscreen with Bluetooth,Wifi, and USB-C. It's good for the road, hiking, biking, and Geocaching. Features Geocaching live downloads,on screen map downloads, is compatible with inreach, and outdoor maps plus. It will do what you need it for plus some. And yes it is tough just like other Garmin devices. I was in the woods looking for Geocaches and slipped down a hillside. It bounced off of a tree and then a big rock screen first. I went down and picked it up out of the snow and leaves all I had to do was wipe some mud off of the perfectly fine screen. Definitely a thumbs up once again great job Garmin

The Montana 700 series is a large unit, well built. Only drawback is it does not play nice with apple products. I could not get the thing to sync properly with my MacBook.
