Worked well for 3 times, then didn't work again.

I was excited to purchase this unit for its heating capacity in a cold room. It worked okay for the first three times I used the unit. However, the unit then made a loud noise after one cycle, and hasn't worked again. Even on fan mode, the unit will make a loud noise as if starting up, fail, and then try three times. Restarting unit and disconnecting power does not work. There is no error code to diagnose.
After reading more reviews online I saw that this happened to few others' and their units. This is a shame, because it's a promising product but just not worth the money at this quality. I'll have to look into my warranty now.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Heats and Cools!

We bought this unit for the addition which doesn't have central heat and air. We needed it to heat and cool, which it does. We wanted the heat pump so that the heat would work below 40 degrees in the mountains of Virginia. So far so good--no complaints. The installation was easy enough for my husband and me and took only about an hour. The best thing was the consumer service that I received when I called GE with questions. WOW!! The consumer service is very personal and very helpful. The unit is not too loud for the TV in the same room. My only issue (the reason for not going with 5 stars) is the temperature controls are not like a central unit; I'm still trying to figure out exactly how to adjust the settings. If you have the heat on and want the air to come out hot, then you need to put the temp all the way up to 80 degrees, even though you don't want the room temp at 80. Overall, it is a good unit for ac and heat.
