Renogy 20A 12V DC-DC Charger for VW Westy

Delivered very quickly. Very happy with quality and value. This replaced a simple isolator between my starter battery and my auxiliary (house) battery. I couldn't get a full charge will driving using the isolator. It became immediately obvious I should have included this in my original solar solution.

Seems to be working great. I use a toggle switch instead of connecting it to the ignition power so I can switch on this charger whenever I want. Be prepared to spend a whole day to install properly. You will need: battery cables, terminal lugs, wire conduit, grommets, zip ties, 50A/60A in-line breakers, and some hole drilling. I recommend using a toggle switch to avoid problems with connecting to a key-on source. Read the directions carefully to determine the correct cable sizes for your specific application.

Perfect solution for mixed chemistry battery systems. This solution also avoids overloading (a.k.a killing) your alternator by limiting the charging current to an acceptable level. I chose the 40 A model which would never exceed 50 A from the Alternator to maintain my LiFePo4 house batteries on my Sprinter van.

‘I installed this in a 2004 Tacoma double cab with the OEM alternator. Which I believe in 80a. I ran 6 ga wire from the vehicle battery to the charger and a separate 8 ga wires to the trailer “house” battery through a “battery quick connector kit”. I too installed a toggle switch to power up the charger but I used a three way switch with off in the middle high charge up and low charge down. Low charge using the current limit terminal on the charger and high charge is just the standard ignition switch connection for full out put.
We have a 100a LiFePo battery on a Scamp trailer with out an inverter. We can boondock 3-4 days before needing a charge. Which is about our water/grey water limit too. Our charging is either the DC TO DC charger in the truck or the house converter/charger on shore power or the Honda eu 2000i. In both cases it takes 3-4 hours to recharge the battery from the BMS cut off.

Easy to install. Good directions. Works just fine with my factory 110amp alternator. If I had one thing I would change, I would make the terminal labeling clearer. They are labeled with castings in the case which is great but then they are then painted the same color as the case. This makes them difficult to see when trying to install the wires properly. They need highlighted with a contrasting color. This is a very minor inconvenience but they asked for a very honest review. One last thing, this review page will not allow me to scroll back to the top of the page to review my review. I hope it makes sense!

Renogy 20A 12V DC-DC Charger for charging trailer

My deep cycle batteries were not charging to full capacity while towing the trailer so I added this to boost the voltage going into the trailer's deep cycle batteries. I also installed a battery switch and wired the Renogy so that it can charge the trailer batteries while driving or while camping if the trailer's converter is plugged into AC. The Renogy does a much better job than the WFCO converter which came with my trailer.

The charger works effectively and automatically for my trailer and Renogy Lithium Battery. The DIP switch setup was not explained clearly in the user manual. the installation was simple.
