...I still don't understand how they got all of this camera into such a small compact body... it's amazing really.
I couldn't wait til Canon released the "G13" and when that didn't happen I was not too impressed with the GX1...then I found out they had released this and I LOVE it.
Perfect for a carry-around, light-weight and sturdy this little guy takes some beautiful shots in both Raw and standard JPEG mode...a fine camera.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, easy to use
Cons: would've liked to have seen the articulating scree

Three Minor Design Faults

I’m an experienced portrait man and bought the G15 primarily for B&W portraits because its zoom lens is perfect for that and also for B&W infrared and fluid-motion photography using long time exposures and neutral density filters. The other reviewers are correct that the camera is amazingly versatile and on automatic settings does everything for the photographer probably better than he can do it himself, especially focusing and exposures, with manual settings and control also available. My only complaints are (1) the power switch is too easily triggered when handling and putting the camera in a case; (2) the fold-away lens shield is too flimsy and can be damaged by an errant thumb simply by picking up the camera unwarily; (3) there is no “bulb” setting, which limits time exposures to 15 seconds, precluding most fluid-motion photography, even when using the optional remote shutter release. Most DSLRs allow the “bulb” setting and lack of this is the G15’s most significant technical deficiency considering the technical needs of fine photography as it is performed by today’s enthusiasts.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, great image quality, saves to raw
Cons: Missing features/settings, Complicated controls/menu, power switch vulnerable to accidental operations, lens shield inadequate, missing “bulb” time-exposure seen on high-end dslr

Great camera

I had purchase the SX 150 in September of 2012 and was disappointed with it's performance. Everything about it was sub par and I was considering going back to using my A570is when I decided to purchase the G15 in April of 2013. After using the G15 now for 6 months, I can give it a great review. Definitely worth the money. Faster continuous shooting, quicker focus, and f 1.8 lens and long battery life. This camera performance should not be compared to a DSLR performance because it's not one. But with its many shooting modes, quick recharge on the flash and compact size, to me, makes it worth every penny. I love being able to take 8 to 10 continuous shots and then pick out the best one of the shoot. I'm able to get pictures I would normally miss with the SX15's slower continuous mode. And no more carrying around an 8 pack of AA batteries because of how fast the SX15 would used them up. Longer battery life is a huge plus.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Great camera

I bought this camera to take on a trip to Niagara Falls, NY City, DC & Virginia because I did not want to take my DSLS. It is compact enough that I could carry in purse, pocket etc. I got wonderful pics of the falls, excellent night pics in NY, statue of Liberty, monuments in DC. I bought the adaptor so I could use a polarizer. You need to watch the back of the screen when turning the polarizer, it will not show any change when looking through the view finder. When using the view finder, you will see some of the adaptor but will not affect taking a pic. I wish it had the small manual like my DSLR has because I do like to take it along. I requested one but was the 8x11 size still helpful though. Pictures are very sharp & clear, battery life pretty good 200-250 pics which included looking at them on the screen, menu easy to use, love having the compensation dial on the top easy to make adjustments, don't miss the rotating screen on the back, never used it on my old powershot. Hardly use the view finder, good viewing screen on the back.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Serious G15 bugs

I bought this camera about a month before I went on a vacation. I tried it out on a variety of everyday situations, and it seemed to work reasonably well, although the viewfinder turned out to be even more worthless then mentioned in other reviews. The wide angle was less wide than my previous camera, but I thought it would be OK for most pictures. It wasn't until I started using it on my trip that I discovered that this camera has very serious flaws which are especially evident at long distance shots. When shooting at maximum wide angle, the LCD shows a wider field of view than the camera can actually photograph. Everything looks good on the LCD up to pressing the shutter button, but when the display comes up afterward, the result is cropped picture about 5-10% smaller on the LCD screen (and on the memory card) than was shown in the preview. If you try to take a near maximum width picture of a wide building, the sides get cut off. If you notice the cropping when the two second display comes up, in theory you can back up and take an overly large picture, but I found in many city situations the combination of the limited wide angle capability and this cropping made taking the picture of a moderately wide building or similar subject impossible. There was an even worse problem, however. Every so often I would take a carefully composed photo, and the the result would the a picture skewed up or down by about 20%, from what was shown in the viewfinder when I clicked the shutter. It turns out that you can carefully click the shutter, wait for the screen to go dark and the shutter sounds to complete, but apparently the camera has still not captured the image. I found I had to wait and hold the camera steady for a couple of seconds or so after the shutter click to make sure the picture registered properly. To be really safe, you need to wait for the preview to come up and look at it carefully. Needless to say these problems are a disaster if you are taking any sort of action scene. I've never had this sort of problem with any other digital camera. Hopefully this can be fixed with a firmware upgrade.
Pros: good battery life, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Poor image quality, Difficult to use

Good camera. Very good picture quality.
I used to have G12 before for a few months. Upgraded to G15 expecting better picture quality and I'm not disappointed.
What is missing compared to G12 that is no articulating screen. which was very convenient. I didn't know it in time of buying G15 and I'm really disappointed.
Also it would be nice have a touchscreen
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, no touchscreen no articulating screen

a word of warning on accessories
on November 1, 2012

If you are looking for accessories like filters or teleconverters for the G15, a word of warning. The G15 does not have the same lens ring as the G10/G11/G12 so filter/lens adapter tubes for these cameras DO NOT fit the G15. I've seen lots of advertisements on the web that say they are for the G15 but on close inspection are for the G10/G11/G12. I fell foul of this myself. I bought a teleconverter that said it was for the G15 but didn't actually fit because the vendor assumed that Canon hadn't changed the design.

Liked it but returned it

After waiting for 2 years for a nicer version of the already nice G12, I was excited about the G15.
I loved the features and the touch, loved the faster lens, willing to settle for the 5X zoom, fairly OK with the movie's size limitation of 4GB. However, I was absolutely disappointed with the removal of the vari-angle display, which I had never believed Canon, in its right mind, would have done so.
The vari-angle display allows you to take pictures at various perspectives, e.g. pictures of a crawling baby, macro pictures, pictures at an awkward position or height, or above or between people's heads at a crowded event. It also allows you to position yourself for recording or taking self portrait pictures in the wild or on the street with just you and the tripod. All that are gone.
I returned the camera! Missing the vari-angle is the deal breaker.
