Best Compact Lens

This is the best compact lens for a pro/expert who is looking for all manual controls. I bought this last month and since then it has become a perfect complement to my 5D Mark III. While I love my Mark III, I can not take it everywhere. The G15 has become a perfect day to day companion to get those candid shots. It is small enough to fit in my trousers' pockets. It is a bit heavy to put in jacket pockets (they start dropping on one side) but not so much.
The image quality from this little thing is excellent. Images are very clean till ISO 640 and the lens is very sharp in all focal lengths wide open. I have got decent results up to ISO 1600 from the camera using RAW noise reduction which is good enough for a very dark room with a small light source.
The macro mode of this camera is simply superb. I have excellent Canon 100 f2.8L Macro lens, but I can't use it in very tight spaces. The G15, however, can focus very close to the subject leading to many very interesting shots.
My only complaint is that the Canon has not increased the size of the sensor since very early G series. The small sensor is not useful for landscape pictures. However, it can make fun looking portraits. I debated with myself a lot over buying G1X or G15. In the end, I picked G15 for its small size, very fast focussing and low price. Overall, I am very happy with the decision.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, excellent macro mode, hand holdability
Cons: small sensor

Best Pocket Pro

I have two DSLRs and five lenses. I have been shooting professionally for many years, but sometimes, I get tired of packing all my stuff. I bought the G15 in the hopes of finding a top of the line pocket camera. Well.....this is the one for me. Listen....it's not a DSLR...OK. But for all around shooting...it is phenomenal. And it has many sweet features, like 10fps and night shots mode that really come in handy.
I love it.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Excellent but fragile

I have used most of the 'G' range, exception the G5, and my favorite the G10. I love the fixed screen - its slim robust and does not require opening and closing to use the camera. The image results outstanding - and I have compared to 4/3rds cameras and its even better that my G1x. BUT the body finish of the G15 is fragile and easily damaged, mine chipped in no time and made a nice camera look very second hand after a couple of outings. So I invite Canon to comment and return the G15 finish to the robust tough finish of the G10/11/12
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, fixed screen
Cons: Flimsy Construction, body finish

Amazing camera

I bought this camera as a vacation replacement for a full size DSLR when I wanted something small, yet functional, to lug around a theme park, for example. This camera is amazing. The fast lens sold me on the camera and it doesn't disappoint. I also have a speedlight 270EX II which I rarely need to use. I love the 1.8 - 2.8 speed. Quality is amazing and performance is wonderful. I don't have small kids, anymore, so the slightly reduced focus speed doesn't bother me in the least. It focuses faster than you might expect for a point/shoot. The most surprising feature has been the macro capabilities....WOW, you can shoot wide open at 1cm from the lens. Close up shots are fun and very cool! I couldn't be happier and rarely carry my DSLR anymore. Thank you Canon!
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, durable, easy to use, macro is awesome!
Cons: limited zoom?

I won't bore everyone with Tech. type talk, just tell you the new Canon G15 is first off easy for anyone to get set up and start taking great pictures. The size is really great the lens is the fastest yet and the G15 focus's quickly and is spot on. Picture colour's are really great controls are well placed and easy to use The LCD is large and bright and IMHO the build quality is super good It's just a fun camera to use.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, fun to use

First two hours

Spent two hours with an LX-5, XZ-1, and G15. On casual glance, images for all three are excellent in daylight up to ISO400 which is as far as I got, as expected. G15 stands out with super focus speed and best IS hands down. Amazingly small-fits in SFbags case I used for the other two cameras. Its a really pretty camera, with metal where it is needed and plastic where it gets scratched--good design. Nice customizable button, but its a little confusing to use because only it will return you to shooting mode once activated.

Love the flush screen

Brings all the G series features with a new slim shape and with a fast lens too. I didn't care for the bulky shape of my G12. Now this new flush LCD screen makes the G15 slim and more compact without giving up the great G series pro features. The fast lens is super and makes this camera better for sports. Thank You Canon for the flush LCD screen.

Canon User Forever

I purchased this camera to use on my dive trips--underwater and because is shoots RAW footage. Although I have had the camera for a few months now, I just used it on a trip to St. Kitts and Saba, WOW!!!! What a great outcome. I just finished my video and people say it is the best ever. Thank you Canon. The construction and quality is superior to my previous cameras. I love that it has a neck strap for land rather than a wrist strap. It is slightly heavier than my other pocket cameras, but the quality makes up for it. The G15 also has an optical viewfinder which is important to me when outside. There is a large screen in the back and they provide screen protectors. You don't have to have the camera on to review the photos & videos. For me, Canon has put all good qualities in one small package. Thank you, Canon. I will be using your products from now on.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, shoots raw footage
