Best Item We Bought for New Baby!

I am an okay photographer and needed a camera that would take amazing pictures without me having to do any real work. I spoke to two photographer friends and they both recommended the Canon G15. I have taken beautiful pictures of my baby and am so thrilled I bought this camera. The camera also has good battery life and I've found it to be sturdy. I've recommended this to many friends and every purchaser is happy.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

A lot of camera for the money!

For the first time since selling my 35mm SLR kit, I feel like I have a camera I can't out-run. Aperture-preferred? Check. Shutter-preferred? Check. Optical viewfinder? Check. Full manual? Exposure compensation? Wide ISO? Check, check, check. f=1.8 lens on a camera this price? Yes! DSLRs are nice, but this is just small enough to carry anywhere, and you'll have to buy a dedicated 50 / 55 mm lens to get 1.8 on a DSLR. Excellent battery life. Hot shoe. Lens sharpness is very good, lowlight performance is an order of magnitude better than pocket cameras. Metering on a par with my old film cameras. Manual focus may take some getting used to, but that's a small price to pay.

This camera is an extension of my arm, great for street photography, always in my pocket.
Macro is great and bokeh very good.
As others have said: rarely carry my DSLR anymore!
Now at a lower price in Europe, so much so that I'm planning to buying another one.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: viewfinder could be better

Great point and shoot

Pros - Build quality is excellent. Menus are very intuitive, didn't need the instructions to find anything. Camera is very solid and doesn't feel like most point and shoots. Image quality is great for a P&S. Focus is very fast and accurate. Video quality is outstanding, rivals many dedicated video cameras.
Cons - Viewfinder is pathetic. It has no exposure info, poor clarity, the only disappointment on an otherwise fine camera.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: viewfinder

Fun point and shoot

After owning a G12 for a year, I replaced it with the G15. The G15 is a bit more refined and a little smaller. I do not miss the pivoting screen and I like that the flash is now concealed since I rarely use one.
The G12 was great to take on vacations and carry around town, I look forward to more beautiful images with the G15.

Best Compact Camera
on October 8, 2012

I've only had the G15 for about a week but I already know it satisfies a long time quest. I own a Canon D40 plus two superb "L" lenses that serve me well. But I wanted a smaller, lighter camera to travel with, one that had pro features without all the heft and bulk. I think the G15 is it!
I have tried several P&S camera with limited success. I even had a new mirrorless camera for a few months but it did not work for me. The biggest problem with these other options has been the lack of a viewfinder. At least for my eyes, an LCD no matter how big, bright and sharp, still has limitations. The first is composition--it's tough to see what's in the scene when I'm holding the camera at arm's length. Second, arm's length means almost no steadiness or stability. Third, in bright sunlight it's impossible to see anything on the screen. So it's basically point and shoot and hope!
The G15 on the other hand delivers with both a large, bright, sharp LCD plus an optical viewfinder. So I can choose which to use. It's easy to turn off the LCD to save battery power if needed. The camera feels solid and comfortable in my hands. It feels like a serious camera. Controls are well positioned and there is good tactile feedback when turning or clicking. Images are tack sharp. Even shots taken indoors at full zoom appear to be amazingly sharp. The pop-up flash is convenient and easy to use.
Plus when I had questions I could not find answers to in the manual or online, I called Cannon Tech Support. I was very impressed with the knowledge, professionalism and courtesy of the agents. This was icing on the cake for me! when I had questions I could not find answers to in the manual or online, I called Cannon Tech Support. I was very impressed with their knowledge, professionalism and courtesy.
I still have lots to learn about using this camera but in my opinion, the G15 is a winner. Thanks Canon--this product and your service people make owning this camera a joy!
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, viewfinder, compact size

Best G-Series Camera Ever
on November 13, 2012

Simply the best G-Series Camera I have ever owned.
1/ I have never liked the articulated LCD Screen, and Canon did it. They removed it for a smaller and lighter camera.
2/ IQ is excellent. Color is wonderful. Low-light performance is very good.
3/ The new 28-140 F 1.8-2.8 lens is perfect for general purpose. It is super sharp and produces fantastic color and contrast. It is fast enough for low-light photo and background defocus. The 1-cm macro capability makes it much more useful to use than the G1X.
4/ The focusing system is almost perfect. Ways much faster than the G1X and the EOS-M. Auto tracking works very accurate, albeit a bit slow in some situations.
5/ High Burst HQ is a very welcomed function. 10 fps is perfect to stop any action.
6/ Even though being a small and light camera, this is a solidly built camera. The magnesium body makes it feel very tough.
Nothing much to says about this G15. I hardly find any cons about this camera. Maybe just a short battery life (but it would be a trade of in size and weight to use higher capacity battery). Besides I would like to see more information in the optical viewfinder, as least the focus areas.
If you are looking for a small camera with big image quality and ease of using, this is the one for you.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, wonderful color rendering, solid built quality, bright and super sharp lens, 1cm macro capability, fast focus. good auto tracking.
Cons: Short battery life
