[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The gear loft is very sturdy easy to assemble and hold a lot of items from your garage ceiling. It works very well just As long as you have adequate ceiling height to mount it to. It’s great for getting items up and out of the way above your garage door.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Came just as ordered. Really enjoyed the quality and simplicity of the rack. I am always impressed with the quality of the gladiator products. I was worried that it would be too small but turned out just the right size for my garage.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was skeptical about drilling holes into my ceiling, but once I started the project and began to put the loft together, I was convinced that I made the correct decision.
Installation is straight forward and took approximately 30 minutes. I measured everything about 3 times just to be on the safe side. I have nearly 250 pounds on the loft and there are no signs of distress anywhere.
I recommend the Gladiator freestanding storage shelving units more because they hold more weight, but the loft is significantly less money and takes up less space.

Overhead Gear loft
on July 6, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just received the 2x4 overhead Gear loft storage rack. The first thing I noticed was that the package was damaged slightly. After opening everything up, I did see there was some damage to the rack itself. Nothing major, or that would affect functionality, but the rack did have a dent in it and was slightly deformed. This is the second product I've received from Gladiator that was damaged, so they may want to rethink some of the packaging to better protect the products. Also, upon looking over the wire supports within the actually rack section, many of them seemed to be deformed from the factory. Some were completely straight, while others were deflected/deformed up to 1/8th of an inch out. Again, nothing that affects functionality. The whole system went together very quickly, probably taking less than 20 minutes to assemble. I liked the fact that the vertical corner supports had tabs bent underneath the rack section when assembled to provide additional support for the screws. It was also nice to see that there were extra screws, nuts, and locking pins just in case. While the assembly was simple, I did run into a few issues on the installation. The Instructions recommend installing this item in an area where it will be positioned 80" minimum above the floor to accommodate clearance for opening doors. This is not a problem if you have a tall ceiling, but this rack is meant to be adjustable from 23"-37.8" from the ceiling. Meaning you would need to have a minimum of a 8.5' - 10' tall ceiling. My finished ceiling in my garage was just under 8', and where I wanted to put it was in a corner near a door. So this was not possible, as the unit would be too low. Therefore, it's important to know these clearances prior to purchasing to be able to choose where the unit will properly fit. The next issue I ran into was with the ceiling supports to hold the rack to the floor joist/rafter. Most joist/rafter spacing is going to be 16"or 24" on center; however, if you try to use the first hole on the ceiling support, with one of the other slotted holes, you will never hit 16 or 24 inch on center. So if your joists are out a bit, this will not work. Even using only the slotted holes, it took a bit of figuring to get it to work, as the center's of the slotted holes also did not match up to a 16 or 24 inch on center spacing. It would only take a slight adjustment to get that spacing, so I'm not sure why it's that way. So along with the spacing across the joists, you need to pay attention to spacing near a wall. Because the screws used to attach the corner supports to the ceiling supports are socket head cap screws, you need to have enough room to get the hex wrench inserted into the socket head to adjust and tighten it. And since you need to have the ability to adjust after you attach to the ceiling support, these screws need to be accessible. So either leave the unit 2-3 inches away from the wall, or change out the screws to a regular bolt that you can fit a flat wrench on to be able to tighten. I would also say that the figures representing the spacing on how to install the ceiling supports did not match up with my installation, and a bit of taking my own measurements worked better to determine distance between the supports to get a solid connection with the corner supports. Once the unit was hung, it was very easy to adjust, and the locking pins are a good feature to ensure the corner connections stay secure. It felt very solid and strong once in place. So while the installation was a bit of a pain in some regards, the end product seems pretty good.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Overhead Gearloft Storage Rack makes use of otherwise unused space for storage. The adjustable corners offer the shelf to hang at your desired height. The shelf is solid and does not twist. Having an adapter for your drill to a socket will make mounting the hanging lag bolts easier.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A little smaller than I would have wanted (but I suppose it keeps me from overloading). I noticed the bolts looked weak which was confirmed by other reviews. I skipped those and went straight to some lag screws I had.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My garage was a disaster. Anytime my wife didn't want something in the house anymore the garage became its final resting place. We actually bought a second stand mixer because she moved it to the garage. The Gladiator Gear Loft allowed me capture unused space above the hood of the car to store household items. Its easy to get to, extremely sturdy and so easy to adjust. Items are kept high and dry. This space was the start of something beautiful. My garage is more organized and we had a garage sale to get rid of that extra mixer. Its a simple way to use otherwise wasted space. Easy to install start to finish in less than an hour. Highly recommend.
