Works as intended but read review

I purchased this months ago, got it hung no issues, no shearing of any bolts. The product works as intended. However, we purchased the 4x8 because we were told we could utilize other configurations to maximize our garage's space limitations. Turns out they only provide enough parts for one configuration, and choosing any other configuration would require additional parts (which aren't available for purchase), so why even offer additional configurations when the real solution would be to recommend buying the smaller rack. We feel lied to and conned into buying something we truly didn't need.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is the second house in 2 years that we have had these shelving units installed. This first house I paid someone to do it, and the second house I installed them with the help of a friend who is also a great handyman. We installed this 4' x 8' and three 2' x 8' shelves in about 4 hours and couldn't be happier with the results. Due to the way the rafters were running in the attic and things like the attic access steps and garage door supports I called the customer service line to get their advice on installing the storage rack supports in an alternate way. The Customer service rep was very helpful and knowledgeable about what I was asking and needed to do. This is a great product that immediately allowed me to clean up my garage. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Terribly thought out

This doesn’t work on studs longer than 16” spread. Wow. How did I get so far and the realize in screwed. Thanks gladiator for over looking that.

Poor instructions

My wife and I bought the 4x8 rack with hopes of solving our garage storage solution issue. Upon research prior to buying this, it seemed relatively easy to assemble and install and overall reviews were good, people seemed happy with the product...that was until we attempted this to do so this evening. First off, the instructions were written very poorly and the directions are not very clear. Secondly, no parts were labeled as to what was what or what attaches to what. When we got to step 3,4,5 it stated we needed 4 of the F1 bolts to attach them together....well the two middle holes have no threads. Apparently after reading another poor review, you’re supposed to use the nuts that’s come with it. The instructions never mentioned using them. So far the worst part has been the threading of the bolts. Getting them started is a big pain in the behind. Some we couldn’t even get in, so we just left them out and attached the front brackets. So far that’s all we got through as the frustration of trying to assemble was too great. Will see what happens when we attempt to finish it.

Poor materials

As I was assembling the over head storage one of the lag bolts snapped off into my rafters. The pictures in the directions could also be a bit more clear. After I figure out how to remove the broken bolt from my rafter I will review the rest of the instal.

Great overhead storage

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My garage was getting pretty full with items that took up a lot of floor space. I had a lot of wasted space above the floor, so this overhead storage fit the bill. All the pieces felt of good quality and fairly heavy duty. The directions were fairly easy to follow at first. It took me some time to get all the brackets screwed into the ceiling supports. I was working by myself, so it took a lot of time to get them exactly where they need to go. After I got a few of them installed I found out that I was like an inch off somewhere, so I had to take them down and reposition them on the ceiling. I did have two of the lag screws break on me, but fortunately the box came with one extra and I had an extra bolt very similar to it lying around. This is probably because I was using an impact wrench, which made it go faster.
Once I got the ceiling brackets installed I moved onto the shelf surface itself. The directions have to connect two of them together using predrilled and tapped holes. I, for the life of me, could not find out how to connect them. I don't know if I got defective pieces, but the holes were tapped so the thread patterns were opposite to each other, and the supplied bolts were not long enough to go through. It seemed like the shelves were supposed to have alternating holes and tapped nuts, but all of mine were the same. I couldn't figure it out, so I just drilled my own holes, and used my own nuts and bolts to connect all four shelves together.
Once I got all the shelves bolted together, it was a breeze to bolt all the hanging brackets on the shelves. I then loosely bolted the hanging brackets on the ceiling supports, and then got ready to hang the entire system. This part I got my wife to help along with a ladder. We slid one side of the unit onto the ladder to hold it up while we slid the hanging brackets into the corresponding brackets on the ceiling supports. They kept wanting to come apart, so we used the little pins to keep them together. Once that side was up, we hung the side that was being supported by the ladder. Then we connected to two middle brackets. I didn't feel comfortable using just the little pins to hold everything together, so I used some extra nuts and bolts to keep the hanging brackets from coming apart. I also went around and tightened up all the bolts. After final assembly everything looked and felt really secure. We then placed a lot of items on it and it didn't budge. Right now its not super organized, so I'll probably shift everything around so we can fit more on. I doubt I have the 750lb weight limit on there so far. In the end I was happy with how it turned out.
My only gripes were the bolting together of the shelf pieces.

“Four Ladders and a Funeral”

(Alternate Title: “Nightmare Installation on Elm Street”) We are on day 2 of the installation of the 4’x8’ overhead garage storage unit. Day one: it took 4 of us to understand the instructions well enough to decide we started too late. We quit for the day. Day two: One person put together the lower cage, but it turns out she put the screws in the wrong place. Bad instructions. Four people, on three ladders (and one step stool), were able to install the overhead brackets in about 4 hours. Bad design. It’s a bit crooked. Finally finished. Looks good. Hope it holds the Christmas decorations and funeral flowers.
